Default Dave Chappelle: Equanimity and The Bird Revelation

The last of his Netflix specials are up now. I'm 20 minutes into Equanimity right now and I'm fucking howling. His line about Caitlyn Jenner going Hustler style

Started great. Then halfway turned into apologetic political monologue. Bleh

I think Dave is fair out of all the entertainment types.

The staged/scripted show at DC is definitely better than the set at LA.

I wonder what CC had on him to increase his "mileage" and other parallels to the Iceberg Slim story.
I wonder if that last year he quit on require him to use a bunch of production companies that's owned by CC and basically money circled backed to them anyway.

    Who knows.

In the 2nd set, when Dave pulled out the cigs, I was looking at the Asian girl sitting up front closely and the guy with her to make sure it wasn't "that" as some kind of interesting twist Dave did for the special lol.

    Dave on Louis CK

""Show business is just harder than that. Them women sounded like, I hate to say it, they sounded weak. I know it sounds fucked up and I'm not supposed to say that, but one of these ladies was like, 'Louis C.K. was masturbating while I was on the phone with him.' Bitch, you don't know how to hang up the phone? How the hell are you going to survive in show business if this is an actual obstacle to your dreams? I know Louis is wrong, I'm just saying, I'm held to a higher standard of accountability than these women are.""

    Goddamn he's a national treasure.

He’s getting a lot of flak about those jokes from Louis CK victims. But that’s only because they’re weak.

He's right on that he can't say me too and the fact that if you keep this going and piss off all the allies, nothing is going to change and have an opposite effect.

I thikn I was talking about the previous special when I was talking about the politics thing. I was referring to the one where he was standing up with the vape pen - not the one where he was sitting down in the small club.

Just finished the bird revelation special, really good. I’m actually interested in seeing Dave do more story telling, his emmett till and iceberg slim stories were really well crafted, and worked really well as allegories for the theme of both sets.

    The Closer - Netflix Stand-up

Chappelle is handling this backlash quite well. Like a comedian handling a heckler.

Was The Closer the funniest special he has done? No. Was it necessary to do it? Yes. He stepped up and smartly defended free speech.
    What's everyone else's opinion?

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59046022

"It's been said in the press that I was invited to speak to transgender employees at Netflix and I refused," Chappelle, 48, told the audience.
"That is not true. If they had invited me I would have accepted it. Although I am confused about what we are speaking about... You said you want a safe working environment at Netflix. Well it seems like I'm the only one that can't go to the office anymore."

"To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience," he continued. "But you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody's demands."

I didn’t find the closer to be that funny. More like storytelling than anything, similar to one of his non Netflix outdoor show he did during the pandemic.

Watching the backlash, over reactions, misinformation perpetrated by the media and people eating it up on this topic is the real punch line.

We just watched it last night and I thought it was great. Having read lots of the backlash before actually watching it I thought it would just be constant LGBTQ or trans jokes but if you had half a brain he was story telling while throwing a few jabs in there. After watching it I'd say the only people he actually hates is us whities, he's definitely a supporter of anyone viewed as a minority and made it clear that if you thought any different you're the idiot. I wish there was more jokes but I appreciate his comedic delivery of sensitive topics in the face of cancel culture. Fuck'em, Chappelle is still great!

Edit: The joke about Caitlyn Jenny was the best

I still remember when he won the gold in Decathlon. We didn't know he was a woman, because he kept it a secret. But I remember they put the gold medal around his fucking big, juicy tits!

He has done more to bring trans issues to light than any trans activist in history.
