Would Aquapel be good in these conditions? I've yet to try it.

I started reading into ceramic as this sounds like a great idea. Several shops are saying don’t apply to windows as you can get weird distortion effects. Any truth to that?
I would refer to Aquapel more like a sealant than a coating. Aquapel goes on very thin without any distortion. Most of the spray by from other cars on the road will just bead together and slide off once you get moving.

We run rain-x on the rally cars because it flat-out works. Blows my mind that people don't run it. When properly applied, it doesn't streak or fog.

I find it gets super streaky after a couple weeks.

Applied to a clean windshield, how can it be applied wrong?

If you like Rain-X, try aquapel because it works the same but it has way better durability. I would get 6ish months on my windshield and probably 1 year on the side windows. Rainx is usually 1 month on windshield and 3-4 months on side windows.

The application cloth, and the method of application (there is a right way and a wrong way to rub, if ya know what I mean ). One thing I see lots of car people do is use the blue disposable towels that you get from places like PA and CT. Those have oil in them. Should only be using microfibre or fresh new terry cloth.

I have a specific coating on my windshield, it is not the same one applied to the car's paint/plastic. I see no difference in my windshield clarity, but it's like a super Rain-X basically. The windshield coating is more for it's hydrophobic qualities rather than protection.

Ceramic coatings. Best thing I have ever done to my car. Run it through the CO-OP touchless and it looks like it has a fresh coat of wax on it every time. Nothing sticks to it and it's protected from salt/sap/bird poop, etc.

There is nothing you can do about the fine spray off people's tires though that slowly turns every car brown haha, this just makes it much, much, easier to clean off with minimal effort.
This. I had one of my vehicles done in the fall and I'm extremely impressed with how it handles the winter slop.
    I like neat cars.

I used Rain-X for years (and yes, applied properly), however I always noticed windshield wipers would remove it over a couple of months, so would reapply to the entire glass. After awhile the coating would be so thick on the area's that the wipers don't touch, you could see the difference even with a perfectly clean windshield in the middle of summer.

Aquapel has yet to do this since I converted to using it about 5 years ago. Far superior IMO.

I noticed too that people apply rain-x WAY too thick. Doesn’t take much.

I did like rain-x, a few times in very heavy downpour on the highway (when I used to apply it regularly) I wouldn’t even use the wipers.

I might try ceramic for windshields though as that sounds like it lasts longer.

Are you buying Aquapel locally, or online?

Roads are going to be a mess on Tuesday/wed/thurs when the temp drops way down again. Can’t believe how warm it is now.

Anyone take their "summer rides" out today? I live in a new build neighborhood and the developer plowed a few days ago, main roads in Airdrie are mostly dry...super dicy in the parking lots though lol almost, almost, almost got stuck in the Canadian Tire parking lot (370Z with Nitto "high performance all seasons")...

Drove to kananakis and back today. Roads were great.

Just a reminder though, it’s never ok to stop and get out of your car to check out/photograph wildlife.

Some moron was following a big horn and photographing it along highway 40. Super smrt. Brought traffic to a near standstill.

Blows me away when it’s people who are clearly from the area and not tourists...

Noob winter driver here, are low temps that much of a hazard to driving if the roads are clear of snow?

Roads are in way too rough of shape imo... get 6 feet off a major road and you’re still seeing 6 inch deep rutted drifts.

On the good roads it’s just sandblasting and brine soaking.

Certainly no fun to be had anywhere so why bother.
