There was easily 8-10" of snow on cars outside this morning, and any of them still there will be getting a lot more.

Another 4" forecast today and another 9" in the forecast next week. Yay.

I walked the +15 from office to passport office today, pretty much stuck busses at every single +15 crossing haha.

Do they even make winter tires in bus sizes?
Arguably the most important vehicles to have winter tires never seem to.

    Do Ambulances even get them?

Yes. It's asinine the buses don't have them, besides storage costs, there literally is no cost differential as they wear about the same as regular tires do (when used only in winter). In fact, they in theory would save money for the city by not causing fucked traffic jams and accidents.

    Ya, you're boned

Been almost 1.5 hours now since I moved. Wish I had grabbed lunch before leaving Hinton lol.

Its because they rely on the weight to overcome the slipping :\

My commute was OK at 5:30am from Evergreen to downtown (45 mins) ...but riddle me this. Why in the hell did i not see one plowed road all the way downtown (not even macleod) and yet the bike lanes are plowed. With snow pushed into our lanes.
    Priorities.....come on....

(i'm not a bike hater, but clearly the city wasn't ready for this blast).

On the topic of the city “not being ready”, I am 100% ok with them not blowing their brains out ( and our plow/removal budget) for every rare storm.

They are out plowing, but it is snowing a fuck ton, there is 3-4 feet already piled up on the side of 4th ave and probably every other major road in the city. I think the argument could be made that they shouldn’t even try to get roads to 100% on a day like today and just focus on damage control.

Would salting the day before have prevented a lot of the build up on the roads, or no? Because they knew this was coming for several days.

I don't think pre-salting really does Mich when you are dealing with this volume of snow. Maybe it melts the first few cms that fall.

It's a big fail for Calgary Transit today. They failed to get transit users to where they needed to go and they ended up being yuge road blocks for all other road users. They endangered the lives of 10 thousand children by estimation.

Fair enough. Might just melt the first bit and make it ice underneath the subsequent 6" of snow.

Time to make the speed limit 5 km/h. That way everyone will walk and no one will get stuck. *taps head*

Sorry to disappoint, made it home fine.
A bit of a bus dodging exercise from all the abandoned busses in the morning mess.

I need a longer ruler. My 30cm one is no longer sufficient to measure accumulation on my bbq.
