Default Because "live" water is better than "dead" water...

"Silicon Valley is developing a "raw water" obsession.

In San Francisco, "unfiltered, untreated, un-sterilized spring water" from Live Water is selling for $60.99 for a 2.5 gallon jug — and is flying off the shelves, the New York Times reported. Startups dedicated to untreated water are gaining steam. Zero Mass Water, which allows people to collect water from the atmosphere near their homes, has already raised $24 million in venture capital.
People — including failed startup Juicero's cofounder Doug Evans — are gathering gallons of untreated water from natural springs, venturing out onto private property by night to get the water. Evans told The Times that he and his friends brought 50 gallons of raw water to Burning Man."

    This about sums it up:

'"Almost everything conceivable that can make you sick can be found in water," food safety expert Bill Marler told Business Insider. That includes bacteria and diseases such as cholera, E. coli, Hepatitis A, and Giardia.

"You can't stop consenting adults from being stupid," Marler said. "But, we should at least try."'

I feel like California really needs some thinning of the population. I approve of this trend.

The "I can't drink tap water, it makes me sick" crowd around these parts have been taking their glass jugs to Harvie Heights to fill up from the springs there for years. Was only a matter of time before people somewhere started making money off it.

This reminds me of a old TV show back home in London.

Tap water getting sold as spring water...

My dad used to own a shop in Peckham market too..

If anyone is interested, I have amazing pure well water at my place, unfiltered or treated and has been tested clean as a whistle... Only $20 a gallon! It is a steal compared to the USD conversion!

You can only improve the human condition by exposing it to stress, you can only improve the immune system by feeding it bacteria and virii.

By filtering and treating everything you are conditioning your body to not naturally fighting. Is the stress of having a minor tummyache similar to the pain of running a marathon? Some would say yes. Is the stress worth it if it conditions your body to be more tolerant in the future, some would say - yes.

I had no idea about this haha. Just googled and ended up watching a 10 minute David Wolfe video on this.

“ I just came from Hawaii, the main difference between Hawaii spring water and Canmore spring water is Hawaii spring water is very young and Canmore spring water is very old. This means I have to drink 3-4 times the amount of Hawaii spring water as Canmore spring water”

Yeah, but have you ever actually contracted Giardia or Cryptosporidium? Coming from a pool operator background, I have had all too many "conversations" with people who feel chlorinating our water and treating water for public consumption and public recreation is a waste of time. But again, even a little amount of chlorine such as sodium hypochlorite (0.5 ppm) can eliminate much of the bacteria found in fresh water and often has little to no influence on the "quality" of the water. I will be the first to admit I like the novelty of drinking "fresh" water; I have drank right from both the Columbia Glacier and the Bow Glacier, and regularly drink fresh stream water in small amounts when hiking. But that is exactly that, I drink small amounts, because even with glacial water there is a risk of consuming crypto and other bacteria which quickly go from a small tummy ache to a full blown diarrhea apocalypse.

All I am saying is that these people are doing this because they perceive it as more healthy, and are completely ignorant to the reasons why we treat our water.

Oh man David Wolfe is hilarious. As long as you can forget the fact that there is a huge following that actually take him seriously.

lol yes, I'm sure that people who have had to deal with waterborne illnesses totally think it was "worth it".

You can also have many waterborne illnesses more than once and of course, get multiple different infections.

But please, go strengthen up that immune system. I can take shit in your water bottle if you'd like to really ramp up those white blood cells

Nature is shit. Shit happens. When you kill all the beavers, something else will take its place and shit in your water - its a 100% guarantee.

Inventing and use of anti-bacterial soaps (now banned in many countries) might go down in history as the thing that caused human extinction.

Now, in a controlled environment - you don't want to have a glass of water with twenty different types of nasties - but if you have them one at a time naturally then arguably it won't kill you. And whatever does not kill you only makes you stronger - mantra of the marathon runner. Is it so wrong to exercise the human immune system every once in a while?
