    Default Indigo/WestPark Parking Scam

During the holidays I was downtown and parked at the lot beside Japanese Village on 10th Ave. Paid for the ticket, put it on the dash and went for beers. Come back a couple hours later to a ticket!

After calling the company, the girl said they have all photo evidence there was no ticket displayed even after brushing all the snow away, but to send a copy of my ticket and receipt of purchased time anyways.

After a day or so, she gets back to me offering a reduction from $65 to $25. Later, I asked for a copy of the photo submitted by the officer showing they cleared the snow. Upon receiving said photo, I return it within seconds with a red box showing that in fact my receipt on the dash is clearly there, even in the low-res photo I was given! I asked again for this to be thrown out by her supervisor.

Now after a few more days I emailed back to ensure this had been thrown out but instead they are not cancelling it and only offering their reduction.

How the fuck is this even lawful?

Their system is ridiculous. I got one at a lot where you have to enter your license plate. I printed the receipt just in case even though it says on the ticket you don’t have to display.

I got a ticket, their ticket had my licence plate entered correctly. I double checked and my parking receipt had my plate entered correctly.

I called and told them that and they said that the pay system is not connected to the ticket system so the patrol has to manually search for the licence plate in the pay registry and if they accidentally don’t see it they write a ticket and the ticket system won’t make the connection....

They threw mine out but moral of the story there system and accountability is atrocious.

They always offer you a reduction.
Don't pay it, you'll get 2 letters in the mail, then they give it to their collections agency. You'll get some calls and texts from a BC , daily. Block those calls and texts.

I'm not usually one to suggest not paying a ticket if you're the negligent one, but in this case they're clearly in the wrong.

    Fuck them.

And if it makes you feel better, I was completely unprepared for the snow and had to scrape off the ice with a gift card I had in my armrest that night hahaha

Indigo has zero recourse for this ticket. They should not have your mailing address unless you gave it to them. And even if they do, they will send it to "collections" which is just a company with collections in the name. It costs more to actually file it than the value of the ticket so it won't ever actually go to collections.

An alternative is to site Fair Trading Act (section 6 – Unfair practices of the Fair Trading Act, RSA 2000, c F-2 (the “Act”).) The missus whipped this out for me once and they changed their tune.

Like was said you are better off just not paying it. Easier that way. CBC did an article on it last year. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/mark...lots-1.3851956

Send your MLA a letter describing this and bring up this is why these companies should not be given access to registration information. Also there should be regulations in place to limit the use of the term fine. This is clearly only a fee. Also it is well established the only sum they are entitled to was the amount of revenue if you had not paid. But you did so it doesn't matter.

Its not a ticket, its an invoice. Don't pay it. Collections won't do anything about it, and it won't/can't affect your credit score. There is no legality behind it. I can send an invoice to anyone for payment, doesn't mean they have to pay it.

The car is my GF's and she's worried about collections and her credit, but that worry seems misplaced now.

Good info here guys, thanks for helping.

You've already done more than you should have to, at this point just don't pay it. The only ones you have to pay are CPA.

Question for you guys with 200+ unpaid Impark tickets - do they not tow you if you repeat offend in the same lot multiple times? Or are they too lazy?

Quite the opposite. I thought I could get away with doing just the driver's side of the windshield. Bad idea! I ended parking again and finishing off the other side. Good thing I'm too cheap to toss away a gift card with 38 cents remaining on it

Did you only have to pay for the tow?

I got 4 BS tickets like OP so just stopped paying all together.

Been towed once, but literally just sit my car in the lot everyday and I must have a lazy impark guy.

If they tow they just call the city to the lot and it goes to a city lot. You pay the city money to get your car, impark has no authority to use the city to collect on their behalf.

Like ickyflex said you just pay for the tow and impound fee's.
