Just found out the events are no longer at the ghost lake dam.
What are the surface conditions like at the airport parking lot? Slippery, dry, etc? I love the the ice on the lake last year. Asking to get an idea of what the parking lot may be like. Weather dependant, I know.

It was snowy in general (there is no traffic or snow clearing on the lot) with a base that was ice beneath. As the day progressed the course turned icy in the corners ... just like real world roads.

    Here's a photo from Sunday.

Here's another photo on the north and central sides of the lot (1000'x400' roughly plus parallel lots where we had other exercises. This was toward the end of the day, btw. Generally the surface is smoother than the lake and there are no snow drifts to tear pieces off your car or to get stuck in. Much less wind. The peak speeds were less however the corner speeds were very similar to Ghost Lake. Overall I'd say it is very comparable and, if anything, this is working out better than I expected and very, very comparable to Ghost ... and closer to the city (in the city), our equipment, lots more amenities (food places, washrooms etc.). Overall this is substantially better in my opinion but it does cost substantially more so we have to be more careful with finances and why we had to raise the cost. In fact we barely broke even or might have lost a little bit of money on this last Sunday despite our cutting costs to the bones so to speak. Fun factor? I'd say it was the same - great fun! (see some comments on our facebook page - look for SASC). So I'm quite pleased with the lot myself.

Can you please spread the word about the school on Jan. 28? If you know of anyone who might be or is interested in a class, please let them know.

NOTE that within Calgary we do not always get winter/ice/snow conditions so we may not be able to hold as many schools as in years past. And, since SUV's on pavement are more prone to roll-over, we might have to cancel some events if we are not on snow.

Right now we have plenty of snow on the lot (and no traffic on the lot) and there is some snow and cold forecast for the coming week. For all we know these could easily be the last winter driver training classes of the year due to Chinooks. So it is important to get in one - the sooner the better!

If we do not get enough students for a Winter school, who would be interested in an Ice Dice instead at the YYC lot? I have put a poll on our Facebook page (Search for SASC).

We have the BMW winter Driver Training on Saturday and a scheduled school on Sunday - Jan. 28 with neither having many attendees. I could maybe move the schools to one day and leave the other as a solo event.

    Exploring options here.

I should add another photo! From the BMW club school on Jan. 27th....combined with the Jan. 28th SASC one (Photo by Chris T.). Playing with the M2 on snows that the NW BMW Gallery brought out ... very competent with snow tires, of course!:

We have had reduced interest in the Winter Driving Training this season so with that in mind, I have closed registration for the March 4 event.

Hence, the last one will be this coming Sunday - Feb. 25th. If you know anyone who might be interested, this is the time to let them know and get in there - last chance!

    http://msreg.com/wdt422518

Cost is $175 for adults, $90 for students and this is just north of the Calgary (YYC ) airport. Registration closes Saturday evening 8 pm .

The instructors are accomplished racers and SASC is a registered, non-profit society in Alberta. No matter your skill level, you are likely to learn something here. In fact, I would say if you have not taken a high performance driving or racing school, you will learn a LOT!

So please spread the word and let's get some people enrolled.

Last chance this winter as I mentioned.

Anyone on the fence about taking these courses really should jump on the opportunity. They're extremely fun and you might pick up some useful skills.

Thanks! We do try to make them entertaining ... but also into a good learning environment ... no matter what your skill level!

We have spots open ... one more day to sign up.

    This Sunday!

The last winter driver training scheduled for March 4 has been cancelled! At this time, unfortunately, we do not see any more being scheduled this year and the summer solo season will begin on April 15th at the YYC lot with a TNT. Hmmm.....maybe if it snows ... LOL

    Stay tuned!
