Default E-brake applied itself while driving highway speed

So while I was driving home today, my civic out of nowhere just felt like the e-brake was pulled. Saw the light come on briefly, then it stared to drive again. Scared the shit out of me.

While this happened, my stereo also cut out for that quick second. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? If so, is it e-brake related or is it electronic related due to the stereo thing?

If car has mechanical e-brake then it's electrical issue. Vehicle year?
Most likely condensation in circuit, or ground issue or something else going on.
Felt like e-brake because car lost power, not actual braking.

Had my AT check light come on for a bit then go off the other day.
But at 300K on my odo, it's a day in my life for gremlins.

You should check to see if your battery terminals are snug and free of corrosion.
Could be loose ground wire or some sort of grounding issue as well.

Same thing on the various Toyota's I've owned.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Sorry I thought I mentioned it. Its a 2002 civic SiR. I feel like it's a mechanical e-brake. @Disoblige that's something I was thinking as well, something like that is possible I think.

Are you talking about the EP3 hatch? The rear discs have a mechanical ebrake caliper clamping used with the cable operated handle. There is no relation to the ebrake and the stereo that way.

Checked the terminal. It was caked full of shit. Attempted to clean it and take it off....ripped the whole terminal ring in half. Awesome.

Yeah, my old Toyota T100 has the "check engine" light on. I've checked it but it's still there. So I ignore the light.

Had an old taurus that use to cut power mid corner every now and then... nothing more ass puckering than losing power steering and brakes driving at 8/10th mid sweeper

But that felt nothing like an ebrake being pulled

sounds like power loss to me, nothing e-brake related (I don't think anyways). The ebrake light in my dash comes on every now and then but its because its SLIGHTLY bumped up by something like a bag or a strap that got caught on the handle sitting in my passenger seat.

Yeah I wouldn't do that. You risk arc'ing and at minimum a battery post melted into the battery.

Please clarify, you saw the RED BRAKE light come on when this all happened? (and not the yellow CHECK ENGINE light on the lower left side of the dash)

A new clamp from Princess Auto or CT should not be too hard to install - even in this weather. The battery is in a perfect spot too, to collect dust and dirt from the road.

NO it was the e-brake light. The CEL is permanently on due to o2 sensors lol

So I clamped the bad connector back on to test it out and it still had no power. Replaced it with a new clamp and it started right up.

We will see if this issue happens again, but it very well could have been this bad battery clamp.

Oh I wouldn't drive like that, just a test. Even with vise grips it still didn't start.
