Default Chase Amazon Visa ending in March 15, 2018

Ahhh shitty news. I liked having that 0% FX fee.

I might have to look at that Home Trust Preferred Visa that's recommended in both articles.

Card gets cancelled, outstanding points get credited to your account balance. I'm thinking of getting the Rogers Mastercard for Fx purchases. Unfortunately it's not as good as the Chase Amazon Visa for cash advance withdrawals in foreign countries.

That's a shame. I was looking at this card for our Europe trip in the fall, probably get the Rogers one now...

Ugh! That sucks! That was the only reason why I got it. But alternatively, that home trust one doesn't look too bad either, especially with the included rental car insurance.

I did cash advances on CC....it's like the best way to get cash abroad, accepted anywhere. Just prepay into your card online, and then take the money out. Pay more with online banking if you need more cash, so simple. Did this in Brazil last year, worked wonderfully. Going to need an alternative, I love my chase card, using it right now in Denver every day.

You aren't woke? It was the best way to get exchange/withdraw foreign cash. You get it at the real exchange rate (don't have to pay the extra % that currency exchange places charge). All you had to do was overpay your card by the amount you wanted to withdraw (to avoid interest charges) and then go to a bank machine and withdraw it in a foreign country in the local currency.

There is another card in Canada that does not charge foreign currency fees of 2.5%.
    HSBC Premier World Elite MasterCard.
I have this card and the $149.00 annual fee is essentially waived with a $50 annual rebate and $100 annual travel credit with a Premier chequing account.
For the premier chequing account - you only need to maintain $100,000 in combined personal deposit and investment balances which most people on Beyond should qualify.

I figured this would happen eventually

Luckily was able to sign up for the Rogers MC in December when they had a $75 signup bonus. 4% cashback on foreign txns (net 1.5%), and also 1.75% cashback on CAD purchases. Yearly fee waived if you’re a Rogers or Fido customer too. Overall a pretty good card

They closed all applications for new cards April 2017 so you wouldn't have gotten one anyways.

My card expires 2/18 and I just got a new one in the mail with expiry date 2022 yesterday. WTF I was so hopeful at that point

This appears to be an identical card, and covers car rentals & roadside assistance to boot:

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't those cards force you to use the cash against your bills? The Fido one did, not sure about Rogers though.

Yes if you want to redeem monthly. Or you can call in once per calendar year and they will issue a cash credit against your bill.

For me i have a rogers bill for $130 every month so it's as good as cash for me. If you don't use rogers/fido then yeah the once per year redemption and $39 YF is a slight drawback.

1.5% (net) cashback for forex/1.75% CAD purchases on Rogers beats the 1% from that Home Trust one though.

I am crushed because I do this as well. The perk for me is I do an insane amount of Amazon shopping as I have prime and my cheap friends and family don't.

That sucks - we just got rid of our other card because 2 credit cards was enough. Soon there will only be one
I'll miss the FX bonus, but I guess it's time to look into other cards and see what is out there.
