    Default What's the scam here?

Posted car on Kijiji, this is a response I get, is it a scam or is the person just really naive to think some people out there would agree to this? I just told "her" I wasn't a bank.

"Hey there, my name is Michaela. I came across this Nissan. Very interested. I wanted to ask you something, are you wanting 6800$ cash or would you be willing to finance it and then I pay you bi weekly or monthly. ?"

Scam is you give them the car and never see a payment from them after.

Tell em to get a loan from a bank, or just ignore them since it's obviously a scam.

Not a scam per se, but yeah, why the fuck would you offer payment terms to someone?

Could just be a kid. I once got a message from a 15 yr old kid asking if he can make payments on the car

It's not uncommon for people to ask this question. They don't think private sales on Kijiji are too different than buying from a dealership. Next thing you know, they'll encounter a problem and ask you to fix it or if they can return the car since it's a lemon. Then they'll stop making payments and you're screwed.

I would never consider this unless they gave me something worth way more as collateral. Maybe like a watch worth over 10k or something and we sign a contract.

I've been asked this as well by a younger kid looking for his first car. It was a innocent question that he just didn't know, no harm it in. He did end up buying the car with a loan from his parents. Personally I wouldn't do this for anyone, not even family.

I suppose, hmmm, maybe I shouldn't been nicer and told her sorry but if she comes up with cash she's more than welcome to come look and I'm flexible on price... Thanks for the input.

Guaranteed that's a scam, and you would only see the first payment. Also anyone who has to finance a $6000 car is probably not going to be reliable for payments anyway. Let them get financing through their own means and pay you in full, you are not a bank and trust me you don't want to be the bank, especially in this scenario where you would lose everything.

I dont think thats an outright scam, just an uninformed millennial.

Scammers would tell you that youre AMVIC or PAYPAL protected.

Unless they want to make the payments, and then once they are all squared up, they get the vehicle at the end. I just recently heard of this happening.

Scam or not, you wouldn't even make it to the second payment before you started to get texts like "sorry, little late this month" or "Hey can I pay you double next month, something came up..." then probably complete silence a few months later haha.

They can finance via the bank rather than through you. Full payment to you or nothing, period.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Yea those are just opportunistic assholes - by actual scammers I mean those who troll Kijiji for things like this intentionally on a regular basis.

Oh don't get me wrong, I would never agree to this for a stranger, I'm just really wondering why someone would even suggest it to a stranger... But I guess there are actually trusting people out there that would agree to it.

Ya have had this offered to me for my bikes every now and then and I just reply with a polite no. Unless like someone suggested, I hold on to the vehicle and Bill of Sale until all payments are made.

Sure I will lend you money.

    18%/yr over 3 years.

    $6800 down + $100/mth for 36 months.

Heck since I like you, I would even give you a deal and do $6500 down and $50 bi weekly.

Hmm, apparently phishing bots are the one proposing monthly payments.
