Default RV show - who's going? Whatcha looking at?

I never go to these shows, but I hear a lot of people do. I have heard different opinions on the "show special pricing". If anyone wants to check it out, since I finalized a sale in the recent weeks, it's a neat opportunity to test it if anyone enjoys that kind of thing.

Also wouldn't mind a price check on two specific accessories, again if anyone feels like doing some asking for me.

Trailer is Grand Design 2400bh (from woodys)
Accessories are the Andersen levelers ( Item 3604)
    X-chock Item 28012

Who knows if anyone cares about this stuff, I'm not too worried about it, but thought it was a unique opportunity to test conclusively if the show prices are better than other off-season pricing.

I like to go and walk around, but my VP of finance (wife) doesn't think it's such a great idea.

We were looking at RV's last year and the closer we got to the show the more we noticed prices either increased or salesmen were not as willing to negotiate because "the RV show is coming and thats the best place to come down and get a deal from us". I like going so I can gawk at all the shit I can't afford and look at both the lavish and the super offroad. The Winnebegos really caught my eye (21-28 footers) but I couldn't convince the wife last year. If I got a free ticket I'd love to go again just to browse but I found it to pretty much be like any other trade show, except most purchases were > $20,000

I'm going. Kids always enjoy it.

Last year was the first year in ages where there were some innovations (e.g. windproof hinges).

my wife and i go every year just to gawk and look at whats new, accessories, ideas that i could add to our trailer, etc.

i have both of the accessories you are wondering about. they both work awesome.
the levelers make set-up alot easier not having to deal with wood or blocks, pulling back and forth forever until you have the correct height.
the X-chock really helps to eliminate movement in the trailer. properly set up, it stops probably 80% of movement.

i can't remember what i paid for the x-chocks cause i bought them used off kijiji. i bought the levelers at woody's. i think they were on sale at the time but they work so well, i would pay full price for them. considering the time saved and less headache of setting up, they are worth it.

Going after work today with the kids just to look at accessories and new things to add to my gear. Bought a new trailer last year so no upgrading yet...
I find that accessories do go on sale on Amazon.ca frequently if you watch the prices on them.

Anderson levelers I have seen them on Amazon.ca between $50-$60 for one and the X-Chocks for a pair I think were $100 at one point. I use the Camco 44573-X RV Yellow Tri-Leveler
or there is this as well similar to Anderson levelers Camco 44423 Curved Leveler and Wheel Chock

I need the x-tended x-chocks for mine and they are double the price just for one.

so did some price shopping for you guys yesterday at the show.

    Andersen leveler is $58 each.
    Regular X-chock is $70 for a pair
    Extended X-chock is $80 each.

Woody's has a propane fire pit on sale for $98 and also didn't have to pay GST yesterday so I picked one up. Camping last year was shitty because we couldn't have campfires and none of my friends had one of these.

Was fun. It seemed to have been busier than recent years. Lots of smaller trailers on display which was nice. Ultra-lights were really, really in. Apparently I can tow a 26 footer now.

depending on your truck and set-up, there's no reason why you can't?

my trailer is 33' tongue to bumper. all within GVWR and axle weights.

getting stuck in a freak storm at the end of October with inches of snow and high winds towing down 93' I'll never pull a trailer >25 feet with a half ton again

But but the truck is rated for it

I see many of these half ton's that are pulling the large trailers and they are one cross wind gust away from hitting the ditch. I dont care what the ratings for these vehicles are, if you are pulling a giant fiberglass box, you shouldn't be pulling more than 80% of its max tow rating. These ratings are just numbers and don't take into account things like wind effects, improper/shifting loads, stopping power, and handling. Sure your tires wont pop or the axle wont bend, but the driver sure as shit wont be able to handle the load in adverse conditions or emergency situations.

I watch this channel once in a while and a few weeks ago they had a Titan XD gas vs F-150 3.5 Eco towing test. It shows exactly what you're talking about. They liked towing with the Nissan much better even though it has a max tow rating that's quite a bit lower than Ford which isn't surprising given how Nissan markets the XD.

The test is acutely quite thorough

in limited grip conditions and wind, I probably shouldn't have been towing... but even on nice summer days, towing long trailers in the crowsnest is a challenge. I just don't understand the pleasure in white nuckling the 22 while having one hand on the trailer brake control with a familiy in the back seat.

You're right, it is quite thorough...for perfect conditions. Conditions that we don't see through Crowsnest pass or in a surprise southern Alberta storm. I'll agree to disagree though as its everyone's choice but thats my rule of thumb and its practice has had me towing heavy for 10 years.

I'm always fascinated when people have specific percentage reductions to the ratings. I don't have any hard and fast rules, although I do stay below the ratings, and I try to keep the trailers short as possible.
