    Default Resume gap

Trying to help a friend with her resume format but she asked how to handle a gap in her employment.

She was at a company for 8 years and then jumped ship to another company in the same industry for 5 months only to return to her former employor but in a different role.

I think she should leave it out and down the road if she applies to something else she can just make something up and say she went travelling.

Your friend needs to decide their gender and be sure to put that at the top of their resume

Include it, and explain it. If she's firing out resumes to online postings without an internal referral, she's already fucked.

Fuck. I’m changing mine now. I put down that I identify as a Gondek. Haven’t received one call back.

For a private sector job. Never!

How long has she been at the company for round 2?
If only a few months or 1 yr. I'd say suspect. But only if she's gotten to the manual resume review reading part.

Would a background check bring up employment she left off?

Those aren't real. Hiring companies barely even call references.

Oohhhh nnooooo!! This bitch was employed the whole time?żĄ!!?!? I was led to believe she was galavanting about Eastern Europe, blowing cologne-soaked Gypsies.
    Now I don't want her.

    Police check. No.
Reference check. If you don't tell your references what the deal is, then yes.

This isn't good advice, IMO. If she was at the same company for the whole time, and took 5 months to go on LOA and "find herself", this wouldn't appear on the resume at all. People don't show LOAs as employment gaps.

If you're advising her to lie on her resume, just put constant employment for the entire time at the original company. No pretend LOA, no boomerang, just normal boring 9 year stint at that company.

Boomerang on the resume is not the best, but not the worst. The 8 year stint makes it more palatable than someone who switches companies every year.

I'm a fan of people being honest. If I found out someone fabricated stuff on their resume, I would make their life much more difficult. Probably too much headache to try and fire them, but they wouldn't be getting attractive roles, and definitely would have a hard time getting promoted.

Bring your authentic self to work, and to the application process. I would want my resume to be factually correct.

I would and have seen many people just leave it out especially if they left one firm, went to another for such a short time, only to go back to the original firm. Just keep is say 9 straight years with no gaps and either position changes or promotions or lateral moves and explain it like that.

Also make sure her linkedin matches btw.

This was a generous tip. If the candidate isn't smart enough to figure this out on their own, they deserve to crash and burn IMO
