If its the one I was thinking of it was Outlaws and then Snatch.

Thinking of the minimum-wage money I blew in those places, I was such a loser
I wasn't even cool enough to go out, just stayed home and danced to electric circuit.

Grew up in the NW. We used to hit up Lajoya's in Varsity on like wed or Thursday night. Then this country style bar - something Billy's or something like that, can't remember the name but it was in Brentwood where the petro Canada is? (Dunno If that gas station is there anymore).
Are you thinking about Billy McIntyre's? It's Kilkenny Irish Pub now, I believe. My university friends and I were fans of Billy Miner's which was where Jameson's Pub is now. If I remember correctly, Billy Miner's was first and Billy McIntyre's moved in later because we used to say "meet at Billy's" and then we had to start specifying which one

Either that or we'd check out this club across from McMahon where the Saigon y2k is. I can't remember the name of that joint either, but you could park on the roof of that strip mall.
I'm not sure what it was before Saigon Y2K, but back in the late 80's/early 90's there was a Mother's Pizza and next door was Father's Lounge. I think Father's had Tuesday as their wing night, and it was something like 5 or 10 cents per wing and $5 jugs of draught, so it was really popular with our broke-ass university budgets LOL

If you’re talking brentwood jamesons The current Jamesons location was parking lot before that. Pizza Hut and Madison’s was just north/west of that. Madison’s was where that employee was murdered and burned. Prior to Madison’s I think it was a restaurant, I want to say one of the early Joey tomatoes but I’m not sure. Could have been a bar before that as it had a very weird setup inside for a restaurant.

Edit: the Madison’s building was where jamesons started out so that might be what you’re thinking of. The new location had to be built because university city’s access road/underground parking access sits on the old site.

    Yeah desparados/outlaws. What shittholes.
Desparados was on Olympic Way. Then changed to Coyotes. I believe it was originally called Dusty's Saloon... but would beed Speedog to confirm.
    Outlaws was up off Macleod.

Just so we're talking the same places.

    On 1st street there was:
The Taz which I think became Burbon St.
    Cherry Lounge

The place that is now Y2K was Yucatan's - spent a lot of time there and the Taz
Before it was Outlaws it was the Rockin' Horse Saloon

I'm pretty sure it was a Keg restaurant. Great spot back in the day.

yeah Billy McIntyre's that's what it was haha.

There was a club for sure where the saigon y2k is now, but I can't remember the name of it at all. It was frequented by a lot of Churchill people though, wasn't country though.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

What was the name of that club across from CJ's on electric Ave? The one with 3 levels that was all black guys or sports stuff?
I think you're thinking of Yankee Doodles, which I think was right next the the Shark Shack.

First job I ever applied for was at Billy Miner's, but I was too young to work there, that was a long ass time ago.

Thanks Cet. Yeah I think it was Yucatan's? Sounds familiar for sure though.

    Oh man

    Cowboys
Snatch (buddy's brother bounced there, went all the time)
Back Alley (first time I saw two chicks kissing)
    Tantra
    Coyotes
Tequilla (Tuesday nights spinning the wheel. First time seeing two hot chicks kissing)

I remember asking about going to Cherry Lounge and someone said don't go, it's all Asian gangsters lol.

My first after moving back here was Mynt, we'd do Mynt and Tantra and Whiskey .... Good times.
Man, those places were such a hit back in the day. I wish Calgary still had a proper lounge/nightclub that catered to the 25+ crowd.

You young kids and your "nostalgia"
Who here is old enough to remember Lucifer's, The Refinery, Slack Alice, Lil's on 1st.
Slack Alice had phones on the tables, you could call other tables. Fun times.
The Refinery had great live bands. Saw Gerry Doucette, Lisa DalBello there.
    Holy shit, I'm old.
