What... Nobody's mentioned the warehouse yet?
That's where I spent too much of my misspent youth...
Oh snap...the warehouse haha, I remember that. How about the republic on 17th? No one's mentioned that either. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The Warehouse with the underground was a good place to hang out.. The original Republic on 9th ave, it never had the same vibe when it moved to 17th.. The Westward Inn, I saw Nirvana play there, as well as the Offspring, along with bands like Beyond Possession and SNFU.. I saw Corrosion of conformity but I think that was at Montgomery community hall and Suicidal tendencies was at Mac hall at the UofC.
Lucifers was a good live band bar, I saw Steve Stevens and the Atomic playboys there, basically a 2 hour Steve Stevens guitar solo..
We also use to hit up the Cecil back in the day, it was always super entertaining...
Too loud for Aspen
My friend Dave Clark used to own both of them, spent many nights there when I was in my early 20s. Never had a problem there, not once, parked my CBR900RR/Stealth R/T Turbo right out front and not once did either get a scratch. Coyotes - I was in the front door when some ass from Iran got thrown out and came back with his 9mm and sprayed us down, rounds zipped right by my face and hit one of the regulars, a 300lb 5'6 kid who fancied himself a white rapper. Never sued the club either, all he wanted was free/instant entry for the rest of his life. Dave Urner, the owner then, gave it to him obviously.Anyone remember Spaguccis?
Electric ave when I moved to Calgary in early 94 was unreal. I lived in a condo 5 blocks away, perfect stumbling range yet far enough way that you couldn't hear it. Great times. I remember all my friends in Vancouver telling me Calgary was shit compared to their scene, until we went to the Keg on the ave the first weekend of University. Thousands of girls walking by our open window on to the sidewalk (man that Keg was cool...), and they forever stfu regarding trashing Calgary over Vancouver. I played a ton of pool back then in league and the bar, Yankee Doodles and Mosconi's were fantastic.
I could tell so many Back Alley stories here I'd wear out my keyboard.
Calgary sure lost something from the glory days of clubbing/pubs in the 90s and 2000s.
edit - Republic was one of my favorite clubs too, circa 1996 at the peak of my clubbing days I think i hit every club/pub/pool hall in the city every month at least twice, as that's pretty much all I did 6 nights a week. Anyone else remember Backstreet Lounge underneath Smugglers in? My friend Tim DJ'd there when he wasn't at the Back Alley, great spot, $1.50 overpoured high balls much of the time when I was there IIRC.
I haven't been "home" to Calgary in a long time, years, it'll be interesting to see the pub and pool scene when I move back this spring. Any advice on what's good in that department these days?
