Default German cars cost less out East?

    Hey All,
I'm in Calgary AB and have been online car shopping, mostly for a used Audi. I understand the larger population out East and therefore the higher number of cars for sale, but there appears to be a pricing gap out there vs here... Are the "cheaper" Audis I see advetized out East (mostly GTA or Montreal) all damaged/repaired? Is the road/weather harder on cars, destroying re-sale value? Just for example, 2012-2014 Q5's seem to be on average $5K less... Thoughts? Is it worth a flight and cannonball run back to AB? Even shipping one West seems reasonable @ ~ $2K... Why so cheap GTA an MTL? Dave

*Everyone in Quebec drives like Jacques Villeneuve on shitty Montreal roads. Cars are beat to shit.

    *not a fact.

Depends on how used it is. I would avoid Quebec all together because of resale. I've had success buying two BMW's in Toronto but they were both less than 3 years old and not winter driven. Shipped one to Calgary, bought the other private party and drove it back.

Quebec cars are full of smoke, maple syrup and semen.

Yeah, it's not just Audi's. It's everything that typically is a bit cheaper out there. (Sometimes more than a bit).

As mentioned, I wouldn't mind buying from out there if it was newer but anything several years old (even the years you are talking about, OP) have already been subjected to the mess out there and likely already have rust forming in areas.

My friend just did that last year on a almost new Audi TTS, it was a manager's personal car with a few thousand kilometers. They saved over $10k comparably with cars in AB.

I bought my S4 Avant used from Ontario because I couldn't find one out here. I would just be more patient in the future and avoid eastern Canadian cars.

I've only been to a dealership 3 times to look at used cars, and I've heard that line 3 times. What it really means is that after the dealership bought it, the manager drove it with dealer plates for a few months.

Ya, basically a manager's demo. It was so new and had full warranty that it was worth it. Friend's probably not going to keep it past the warranty anyway, so no big deal.

This! Depending on the vehicle the savings can be huge and the selection is also better. If you're after a newer luxury brand it could be very advantageous to buy from there, with the real estate market booming theres gotta be a shit ton of people upgrading every other year and even factoring in shipping and a potential flight for pre inspection you would still be on top

110% accurate based on the Quebec plate CTS-V I took a look at in 2014. Frenchy owner, smoky interior, bald winter tires
on curbed stock rims in July. Rust in wheel wells. Clunking diff. yeah that's a non Jacques

Larger used car market and cars typically in worse shape if winter driven as the rust issues are much more severe there. Usually not worth it unless it's a particularly good deal and a relatively newer model.

It can also mean it fell off the delivery truck and thus can't be sold new. Or was used as a test track race car, had it's brakes replaced, than sold as dealer demo's as Calgary BMW did with all those white e92 M3's in 2013.

Lol, I like how the map completely ignores the mass amounts of flood cars in the Gulf states.

Yes salt and winter driven car are plentiful here out East. You need to do your homework prior to thinking of getting on a plane. Are there deals to be had absolutely, if your not in a rush to purchase and are patient you can pick up a very awesome car. I personally just purchased a 2012 Audi TTRS with just under 24,000kms, last summer I return my 2015 VW Passat and was looking to purchase a TTRS but two of the deals I was looking at had dropped thru by the time the buyback happen. So kept looking on a monthly base and came across this vehicle in Moncton, NB. Bought it site unseen but had the sales guy take close up pictures of the area that usually get dented or chipped. He also took close up video all around the car. Only one chip on the hood, no bad for a 5 year old car. Dealership gave me all on the service records, the car was garage stored and never winter driven. Paid $43,000.00 for the car.

If you do find something in the Montreal/Ottawa are I'm only one hours way from either city. If I'm off shift (work in the Oilsands) I'd gladly go see it for you. I'm a car guy and do most of my work on my cars myself, be willing to help another car enthusiast.

    Jack
