T-wings and shark fin engine covers are gone, it will be interesting to see what new aero developments will arise out of interpretations of unaddressed areas - the Halo is new and from what I've read, there doesn't seem to be anything in the rule book with respect to how it looks, only in how it does it's job with respect to impacts and such.

Aero is such a big deal, little things could possibly make a big difference - in yesterday's Daytona 500 there were drivers that were using their left hand as an aero device at times to reduce the amount of air coming into their cockpit. Seems silly but when races are being won by inches or less and less than a 1,000 of a second, little things could make a difference. F1 is the king when it comes to aero trickery and one upping another team and 2018 should reveal some new ingenious developments.

This camo RBR livery is amazing, I don't get why they even bothered with it though, if they are going to change it up before the season starts.

Pre season testing livery is to please the fans. In season livery is to please the sponsors.

McLaren is rumored to have some questionable aero advantages with the halo. Prob won’t see it till first race.

    Very nice...

Not digging the halo. I wonder how much it will affect the drivers vision when it comes to different tracks and racing conditions.

Probably not much. Except maybe for Vettel, perfect excuse for his running people off the road, guaranteed he'll use it.

From what I read the FIA are still working with indycar on the windshield type protection so not all hope is gone.

So how is halo supposed to protect drivers from incidents like Massa's injury? How does the structure handle in a full on crash like Alonso's last year?

    1. It doesn't. That was brought up in the arguments against the halo. It protects from wheels flying at drivers (ie Henry Surtees death), or the close call when the Force India almost took out Schumacher's head in the Mercedes at turn 1 in Abu Dhabi a couple years ago. If we look back at the serious F1 accidents, it wouldn't have helped Senna, Ratzenberger, and arguably, wouldn't have helped Bianci either as the whole top of his car got scalped under the JCB. In Maria de Villota's case, as it was slow speed, the Halo may have prevented her ridiculous injuries when she rammed into the back of the team trailer.

    2. Not sure, undecided. If anything, the only difference in the Alonso incident would be the need of extraction crew to get him out.

I just can not unsee the halo, it's most offensive from any sort of a side view. It just destroys the looks of the cars.

Have they found out a solution for the starting lights?

The Alfa livery is dope, and the Renault is nice from the side profile but the nose on one is rough...

So Merc did the reveal on W09. No major surprises. - Why change a good thing.
Looks like Ferrari is trying to take a page out of Merc and going for the longer wheel base.

In other news Ricciardo crashed the new RBR on the filming day and it is interesting to know that RBR is already going to the extreme to hide something,
