Wait, are you saying rickenbacker gave lemmy unnatural long life, or that Lemmy's magical powers gave unnatural long life to Rickenbacker?

Little from Column A, little from Column B.

The bigger problem is Gibson management. Gibson has seriously gone downhill in the last 1/2 decade or so, from working conditions to quality of product. From the product perspective, they've increased prices, lowered standard features, and made customizations a massive PITA. Try replacing a pickup on a new Les Paul. Unless you buy Gibson quick connect pickups, which adds unnecessary complexity purely to lock in aftermarket sales, it's more expensive to the end user but saves on soldering. That complexity has also added more failures, poorer quality control. Take a look at the entry level LP Studios (now rebranded as faded), 30% more expensive, completely butchered with the cheapest parts. It just looks and plays like shit.

Rock might be dead, but the guitar market is still relatively strong, especially on the acoustics side. Gibson's failure has nothing to do with market conditions.

On the bright side, vintage Les Pauls are going nuts in pricing. Even shit as new as 2000's are going up in price and selling more than original purchase price. Unintended profits for my LP collection haha.
Profits only if you sell your collection, do you actually see yourself doing such?
    Will fuck off, again.

Gibson’s ceo is a complete douchebag, and hurting things further is that the downturn of 2008 and the aging boomers trying to cash in on their collection at once has made many vintage guitars more affordable.

Point in case, for the price of a new 335, I was able to get a players grade 355 with patent number pickups, why would I buy new?

I blame Limp Biz, KoRn, Papa Roach and other crap nu metal music. They took thrash metal and dumbed it down enough for suzie house maker to feel like a badass in her Sienna.
May as well blame the Seattle grunge bands as well while you are at it. Korn was formed in 1993 (when grunge was in it's peak) and pioneered nu metal. You may not like them of the bands they spawned but I fail to see how you can blame one genre for the state of today's heavy metal music. There's still plenty of examples of speed metal, death metal, metalcore, industrial, etc and you just have to look for it. If anything blame the downfall of thrash on bands like Metallica for dumbing down their music for mass consumption.

For electric guitars, yes. There's no point in trying to be a rock star anymore. The rock star lifestyle isn't acceptable in today's PC environment. Can't even interact with a groupie in fears that some day she might metoo the shit outta you.
I am rock n roll dad forever I don't care what you say old man!

Sucks to hear Gibson went down hill and now bankrupt in short order

The dumbing down of music isn't just limited to a particular genre. The dumbing down is prevalent in all music genres, and all of society as a whole.

Maiden, Priest, and Therapy for when I want the aggressive music. Except, that also includes just about any symphony or overture from the classical genre.

Of course, I'm off topic, except it all comes full circle.

BTW- If you want to stop those school mass shootings, then you might want to take a few minutes to listen to the lyrics of Therapy and why such killers exist. The album is Troublegum, and is a profound song to song journey that has an epic and profound ending.

    Here's a briefing:

Glad to hear its not shuttering it's doors, but instead going back to focus on guitars and such.

I have not had any issues with any Gibson guitars (have and owned '93 Nighthawk, '00 Les Paul Studio, '17 SG Standard, '15 Les Paul Standard, '95 Nighthawk, '00 SG Standard, and '10 Explorer).

You will encounter quality issues in just about anything especially handmade products, just have to physically see and play them before buying.

The 2017+ lineup has been fantastic. I've handled several Les Paul, ranging from Faded to Standard and visually and plugged in they appear to have no issues.

Don't buy them sight unseen, Long and McQuade provides 1 year warranty and 1 free service for new or slightly used guitar bought from them.

Frets refining is $45 and full service is around $75, affordable if you are looking at Gibson guitars.
