Because I'm sick of being the responsible one and bail people out. Let's live it up and get bailed out.
Such a heavy burden you carry.

PC voters giving the NDP shit for the budget is rich. The PC's failed to manage a 10 year boom and then turned around and blamed the public for not asking to be taxed more.

NDP haven't given me any confidence in them either.
To be fair, the PC had a gravy train and managed the budget like we had a gravy train forever because that's what the voting public wanted. Easy votes. When the oil dollars stopped flowing, they wanted to cut back and that's one big reason why they lost as NDP rolled back on the cuts.

While blaming the public was political suicide, it was the painful truth. We voted to be in debt rather than fiscally responsible. That's the AB way right? haha

Sucks for me, as I'm in a high enough tax bracket where I'm helping fund this ride. Not that it's even enough.

Too far away. Anything could happen in a year, AI could replace 10,000 IT workers, Pipeline could burst, Trump could demand that people eat oatmeal, and Earthquake could hit west coast.

I would vote for anyone who had a realistic plan to slash government waste and silence / ignore special interest groups. The concept of acceptable debt is a cancer on Western society and it's worst form is when it's hung on the taxpayers for the benefit of optics of the politicians.

I would consider voting for a government official that flew 22 bombing runs over Ukraine (assuming this will be the year that the US invades Ukraine) not killing a single civilian and not getting captured *sarc*.

That would probably be harder than landing on the moon nowadays.

I can finally fucking vote this time.

I agree the debit is high. Be careful with what you wish for. I just want to share a perspective.

The UK made massive cuts under the guise of 'austerity' after the crash in 2008. The Conservative government made massive cuts while the Labour government argued against it to ride out the storm. Its had a massive effects on local economies and communities. In 2011 I was so fucked up I went and saw my local MP. He told me off the record, the cuts fucked everything up. Healthcare went downhill. People cant get jobs anywhere and hence have no money. I could not even get a job at Starbucks.
The economy was artificially kept up due to open borders with the EU. This decimated the labour market and kept wages really low. Its still shit today.
My friends father had a stroke, the health care he got was just shit. He was just sitting in the hospital for hours.

Now Take Alberta, the opposite happened.
We did not cut. We borrowed more, debit is insane. Bear in mind we are in a time where its been super cheap to borrow money.

Unlike the UK we controlled our labour market (I know this as I my workpermit was not renewed and I had to fuck off back to the UK).

Our healthcare is hands down first class. My uncle battled cancer here for 12 years and passed away. The healthcare he got in his final years was amazing, he should have gone years ago but surgeons did amazing work.
A few of years back my room mate comes to me, she cant talk and and can't feel the side of her body. I take her to the hospital. Within 15 minutes she is having a MRI. The after care was amazing and she recovered 95%. My brother in law just had surgery for prostate cancer. He survived and his health care was first class.
I found myself last year in emergency many times struggling to put sentences together, brain fog and im sitting in a wheel chair not being able to stand. Im asking myself, is this what it feels like to die..?
Doctors spent a good amount of time with me. In the UK they would spend maximum of two minutes and kick me out. Here in Calgary they would not let me leave the dam room and they go through everything in detail. I get sent to Neurologists asap, first class Cardiologist's, internal medicine specialist, god knows how much blood work and testing. I'd never get this in the UK.

I acknowledge health care is a portion of the debit and not all of it. But do we go to the Ralph Klein Ways and blow up hospitals? If that happened two of those people i named above would not be alive. One of those is a scientist whose work received an award and has saved lives in Alberta. The other has made massive contributions to free enterprises in Alberta that has had huge positive impact in the growth of the business community.

I don't like the debit. I don't like the NDP. But as a Ex pat and looking back at the UK, I know what happens if we did not have the debit.

Yes things are bad. No way near as bad in the UK.

To be honest I really don't know who to vote for. Politically I should be voting UCP. Most of my friends are Suberu driving NDP liberals. Im the odd one out and on the complete opposite side of that spectrum.

The issue I have is the politics are too polarized here and a sense of 'entitlement' gets marketed under the umbrella of being 'conservative'.

Has the NDP done that bad of a job? If so what are comparing it to?

It's not a matter of closing hospitals, etc, it's a matter of getting rid of bloat and not pandering to special interest BS that hurts the whole. Like what MB said:

In addition to that, we need to stop ideological policies which scare away investors.

I won't be shocked if the NDP win a minority government.

I will be shocked if any party wins a majority next year.

Austerity is a mssive failure and fraud. Everyone else in the world knows this.

We are now persoanlly debt free except for our investments. But if theres an issue you have to fix it and not wait 10 years. It will cost more because damage will spread and inflation.

If you change your breaks now with 5% left, it will he cheaper then waiting when they are grinding. If you change your oil at regular intervals it will be cheaper long term then doubling your interval to save money.

Same with hospitals. Blow then up sell to dvelopers at pwrtial value and it will cost more in the future. Sell your profitable energy company now for a few dollars and you will miss the revenue 20 years from now. Neglect roads and bridges now it will cost more in accidents, pollutiob and inflation building costs 20 years from now.

Same with well clean up. The government never mandated time lines. Things that should have been remidiated 15 years ago now cost astronomically higher where it would cost more then we made on the royalties.

Austerity has failed everywhere it was pushed on people.

There is no such thing as debt free. What's the Provincial and Federal debt? Who the fuck do you think pays for that?
