    Bump

What's the going rate for a rock chip repair these days? I just got a brand new windshield and took a pebble off it on my last trip to Sask. It's smaller than a dime and no cracks just a little divot with an air pocket behind it. The chick with the orange tent at the Sobeys down the street told me it was $90 for the repair! I swear I used to pay like $40 for the initial chip and $25 for each one after if they were fixed at once. At $90 you're almost halfway to a new windshield!

That's wild. You can get similar results DIY w/ amazon or crappy tire kit FYI.

I think 90 is unlimited for a year, it is like 50 or 60 foe one

Negative, at least not at the tent I was at. She said it was $90 for the one but she would cut me a deal on the unlimited package if I got that chip done which is "usually an additional $30 on top of that".

Sounds like maybe I was being had. I'll try Crystal Glass or Canalta Glass. Maybe even try my own hand at it. I was just caught off guard because I never ever remember them being so expensive.

Mine was $60 and then $30 for any additional chips, so the girl was definitely trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out of you if she started at $90 for the first chip. They also tried to sell me on a yearly package that auto-renewed, but turned that down. Not too sure what area you’re in but I got mine done at the superstore parking lot off of 130th ave in the SE.

I took a look at the offerings from Canadian tire and those look to just fill the chip with that glue, however the deco guys have always drilled into the hole first with a dremmel and then filled it afterwords. I think that drilling first would get more glue in the crack to help hold it together longer, but not 100% sure if it actually makes a big difference in the grand scheme of things.

I've been getting my last couple repairs at CalAlta. If you've got a couple chips, you can always buy their online coupon:
    https://calaltaautoglass.ca/index.ph..._chip_repairs/

Only catch is both chips have to be repaired in the same visit, but they let me split it with my friend since we each only had one.

I also bought a couple of these to keep on hand in case of an emergency. I haven't used it yet, but my cousin has and he says it's really easy to do and worked out pretty well. It's currently listed at $11.97, which is a good price. I've seen it bounce between $14-19.

the permatex kit is pretty easy, and a nice choice for a beater. Small risk of getting some residue that impacts visibility, so best for beaters or chips out of drivers line of sight, unless you are more confident than me.
