He estimates 20 cubic metres of fuel spilled, or roughly 30,000 litres.
What the fuck kind of math is this?

They should really limit the total amount of boats they allow on the coast at the same time... You know, for environmental reasons.

Well at least boats named after Calgary.

On a side note, I wonder what beyond's most recently converted granola crunching transplant thinks of this - SP, you out there?

Zwick said the fuel is similar to kerosene, lighter than water and quickly evaporates. "This fuel historically does not provide a significant effect to marine life," he said.
So 100% a non-issue. Will definitely be interesting to see what comes of this.

Also, seriously though, FFS navy. 30k litres? That's as if a fucking tanker truck just opened the valves and dumped its load all over the road. Curious as to how this happens at sea. Obviously, they carry huge amounts of fuel and the flowrate is probably off the charts when doing transfers, but still...

I think the ocean is a pretty big place, and more fuel than this gets dumped on a pretty regular basis without anybody knowing about it, and with little or no impact the environment.

Plus there is a lot of bacteria in the ocean that eat up hydrocarbons like candy, a few that come to mind:

    Marinobacter
    Oceanospirillales
    Pseudomonas
    Alcanivorax

    30,000 L in a 714,000,000,000,000,000,000 L ocean? Fuck off

PS: Not a made up number... that is how much water is in the Pacific ocean, give or take a few billion
    Zen?

Hopefully the gov't hires some more bureaucrats to study this mess... Or increase the taxes to make up for potential spills next time.

Don’t joke, people in van have been petitioning to shut down the port for years

It’s as if that city doesn’t realize why it exists.

They'll eventually shut down all the ports and there won't be an uproar until the cost of a hackeysack or frisbee increases 2000%.

Trolling time. Can you imagine how much worse that accident would be if any of those trucks were pulling oil?
