Default Window film to prevent UV

In our bonus room, we get quite a bit of light and it has taken its toll on a lot of our things up there. I didn't notice just how much it has faded the books on our shelves until she showed me and damn! I am more concerned about the diecast models I have up there in glass shelves with no UV protection. My cases are somewhat out of the direct light but it does get some direct light as the sun moves across the sky so I am wondering if anyone who has used anything like this product:

    https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.3...000686183.html

I'm reading the reviews and it looks like people are having a hell of a time trying to install it because it keeps curling up. Any insight into something like this would be awesome.

installing film on home windows is an art, I honestly recommend tint tech, they have done a bunch of home windows for me and they have all been perfect.

We had spectralight.ca do all east & west facing windows, with security film equivalent on ground level
    http://thewindowfilmspecialists.com/works/pdf/V38.pdf

    It's been 5 years now:
-Glare reduction is great in the summer
-Feels cooler in the summer, but it's probable a placebo
-reflects blinding sun back in your eyes when it's at the right angle.

Heard that if you install on interior side it can "trap" heat between the panes and damage them or ruin the seals leading to moisture. Is that bullshit? I could use some film on the south facing windows at my house. Heats the house up a lot, even with the wood blinds closed. Those blinds get hot to the touch.

Alright, back in the day I use to install commercial and residential film as well as some auto tinting. It is an art, but not too hard if you have the proper tools.
@ExtraSlow this can happen with a big enough window and I've seen it happen, however it's pretty rare. In all the windows I've done, I've only seen one.

Curling up isn't an issue if installed on the inside, I always thought it was stupid to install outside. It is an awesome thing to have, but if you go with a mirror film that blocks something like 80% of the heat and glare, it does look a bit gloomy to me and people I've installed it for, sometimes have called back to put the lighter stuff on.

Some stuff for you to think about @LUDELVR

Edit: forgot to mention, try not to buy cheap stuff at home depot, it's probably one of the reasons it curls up, not enough glue in the corners or whatever.

So if you get the decent stuff, it's no problem to install yourself? Back in the day I tinted a couple of car myself and never had those stupid bubbles that you used to see all over the NE. I assume a house window is easier since it's flat and you should have decent space to reach all the corners.
Have ghetto tinfoil over one of the kids bedroom windows to keep it dark. I guess if that hasn't fucked the window up, tint isn't likely to do it ether.

Just like anything else, you get what you pay for. I still have some of the mirror stuff on the roll in my garage, I've been meaning to use but I don't really have a use for it.

It was he highest end stuff you could get and it was expensive. Its probably 10 years old so I'm not sure if the quality deteriorates if it's still in the box, but it looks fine.

Im sure it could do a few windows if you want to try your hand at it @LUDELVR @ExtraSlow

Cheers for the reply man! I might actually take you up on that offer. What does that stuff run and how much are you thinking? Does it make the inside super dark and does it look odd from the outside being a mirror finish? If you're keen, maybe I could pay you to help me out with this. Honestly, it's the big bay window in my bonus room but it has a frame so it's more like smaller squares. Either way, Shoot me a PM

Haven't done this yet, but have learned that nobody recommends using this film on triple pane windows, which is what my house has. So I will drop this idea.

Run the AC more until the weather cools off.

But thanks. I like to think about this stuff, and I don't mind sharing my hair-brained ideas with the world. It's a shared journey.
