Default Newb looking to tow a light tent trailer this summer with my car... Where to start!

Thought I'd start by asking on beyond...I want to tow a light trailer or maybe a Boler with my 09 G37X coupe. Can I just but one of the many DIY install receiver hitches online and be on my way.... Is it really that easy? How on Earth do I even find out how much weight I can tow? I imagine if find that in my cars owners manual? Anything I should be aware of? I've seen tent trailers with brake lights on the back and taillights at night, is this required by law and how does it hook up?

You are on the right track.

Determine what your vehicle can tow, source a hitch that will accommodate the hitch weight of the trailer you are looking at and add in wiring. Pretty sure you can install the hitch yourself in most cases and there are simple ways to "T" off existing wiring to provide a harness for trailer lights.

I think a very small tent trailer would likely be better than a Boler unless you move up to a SUV or truck but that is my opinion.

you cant tow with a G37... if you find a receiver, its for a bike rack not towing.

See here: https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-i...hitch-mod.html. I don't think I'd trust that to tow much.

If you are buying another vehicle, use that to tow and you'll be probably far ahead in money. Used tent trailers are often dirt cheap.

if its only for a couple people and you just want hard sides on the cheap i'd just buy a van and toss a memory foam mattress in it... tent trailers are way too much damn work.

Ya ExtraSlow...something like that, but preferably a Nissan van.

I came across an entire subreddit yesterday of people converting vans to live in (vandwellers)...

Aside from your nickname, why a Nissan van? Something like that F350 van will have a lot more space.
    Will fuck off, again.

Domestic vans are cheap, huge, easy to fix and easy to sell. Unless you are looking to spend serious dollars, they are all about as beat up and reliable.

Fuck yea, 500$ for a functioning Dodge Caravan. Park and cover if not using. Gets some window vents for keeping them open at night without getting rain inside during summer.
