Anyone painted chip/particle board successfully? Garage insulation is covered with chipboard and I want to paint it white to help make it brighter.
Searched on google and the common consensus is you have to use a paint with a low water content as the chipboard tends to soak it up and swell. Problem is they all recommend oil based paint as the solution. As far as I know oil based paints were banned in Canada several years ago (with a few exceptions).
So what have people successfully tried? A friend recommended kilz stain cover primer as they used it for theirs and said it didn’t soak in very much, any other options?
Some claim you should sand before to get the top layer of resin off so the pores soak up the paint but this seems completely opposite of what you should do??
