    Default Password Management

Just kind of an interest poll, but what does beyond do/think of password management apps etc.

I will admit I am guilty of reusing simple passwords on way too many sites and I have been trying to do better by trying to change some of the more serious accounts to computer generated passwords and storing them in a secure DB.

I have started using LastPass personally which seemed to be pretty good. I would use iCloud except that I use my surface for pretty much everything these days and at least lass pass supports macs, windows, and iPhones pretty well.

What are peoples thoughts on the topic?

Anyone concerned about saving everything in one place now access to one account grants access to all?

I also use lastpass. The chrome extension and android app integrate perfectly. The family account is also handy to share complex passwords with the wife for financial accounts ect. All my passwords are 21 characters minimum and have upper, lower, and special characters.

Anything that can be 2 factor is, anything else is complex upper lower symbol number type passwords.

I use Blur (similar to LastPass).

Also use passphrases on most sites. Anyone talking about upper case, lower case, special characters etc is a sucker.

Lastpass is the only thing that keeps me going. As mentioned chrome extension and android app and I am set.

    This explains it well.

Special characters try to add complexity to short passwords but they don't make it that much harder for brute force attacks. Longer simple passwords (known as phrases) are much harder to crack.

At least that's how I understand it.

    That’s actually pretty interesting.

Still most websites won’t let you get in without at least a number and a symbol.

And just as many don’t let you have long passwords.

Probably a good move for a master code for your password account.

Not sure if this is just a factor of so many beyonders being in IT but I am actually surprised so many people take this seriously. Most people I know don’t give a fuck.

For non-work related passwords, I only use 3 different passwords with similar misspellings in them (several extra vowels, etc), and add capital letters and numbers when required by the website. My banking p/w is the only stand-alone one, that's completely different.

This drives me freaking nuts how many websites can't handle symbols or numbers. I had to move to lastpass so I didn't get locked out of everything LOL

I couldn't even use special characters for my banking password for the longest time (I can now, finally), and I still can't with any of my credit cards. I've never understood why these enormous financial institutions won't allow strong passwords.

I use 1Password on my iphone. Currently have 88 entries in there with about 20 of them being work related accounts. Definitely required this day and age.

Should I be concerned that I don't even know what a password hash is?

They are also easier to remember. It's the irony of it. The passwords that are the most human friendly are the hardest to crack for a computer.

Websites that enforce upper case, lower case, special chars and numbers are simply behind the times. Better off enforcing a minimum length of password.
