    Default 2018 Camping thread

Since I got my new trailer this winter, I've been really excited to get out and do some camping with the family. Who's got plans so far?

For reference, Reserve Alberta Parks (for Alberta provincial campgrounds) has a 90 day advance booking window, so booking for May Long Weekend is open Today February 20th!

BC Parks can be reserved at Discover Camping up to 4 months in advance.

National Parks camping opened in January for reservations.

Who's got big plans this year?

I've got one 8 day trip out to revelstoke area planned in August, and one week trip somewhere around Dutch Creek or Livinston Falls planned for July. A couple of small weekend trips to K-country and a few weekends in my in-laws cabin driveway (for the free babysitting).

Might graduate to a tent trailer or a small camper that can be towed with a car

And can't wait to get out of the city! This winters been long enough already!

Would love up go back to the Kootenays as two years ago we had a lake front camp site just past Kaslo but all you could see was smoke.

Group camping with family can be great. and one lon drive for being parked for ten+ days is totally worth it. Far better than driving two hours for two nights.

i was able to get a couple sites for my friends and I for May long. We also have a few trips planned for Ol' Macdonald resort. the kids love that place. nice sandy beach, shallow lake for playing in the water, etc. lots of activities for families.

i totally agree. most of our camping trips are a minimum of 3 nights. unless the drive is less than 1 hour, i want to stay longer than 2 nights.

we go to ol' macdonalds as well, great place for the kids, i love the overflow, we're last minute people, so we usually just stay in the overflow, but we know there's always room... we usually have 3+ units so we make our own little group site.

Booked a couple of nights for the fathers day weekend at Bolton creek. Nice and close, going to use it as a shakedown trip for the new trailer.

Never spent much time at lower lake. What's the terrain like there? My kids like to wander out behind the site for hours at a time. Is that creek there safe to play in?

I’d probably say no in June during high water, but in July on it would be fine... pretty close to the lake as well. Not really swimming quality as it’s freaking cold but a good place to chill. I like that area more as a base camp for tons of hiking and biking

I’d book interlakes if it was an option but just first come first serve. That’s prob the best campsite in K country. Just about impossible to get into if you’re not leaving a trailer out there weeks on end

Haven't booked any sites yet because I'm 95% sure my shift is changing this summer. Also I'm a little pissed that the National Parks were open for reservations in January. Last time I booked one they weren't open until March. So I missed getting a spot at Greenpoint.

It sounds like you need to be camping up along the Forestry Trunk Road northwest of Cochrane - North Ghost or South Fallen Timber (Hunter Valley). I believe it's pavement all the way to North Ghost and about 6 or so km of gravel for South Fallen Timber. No stores or showers or such but quite a bit more wild than Lower Lake way. Kids can wander all over the place at South Fallen Timber and there's a wonderful small stream there as well.
    Will fuck off, again.

Yeah, we do that type of camping too, it's great for the kids.

Although not all 100% authentic, Sundance Lodges opened up their booking today. My kids really like the Trappers tent and Tipis.

I am Mr. Plaid. I have tonnes of those shirts. The beauty is, I am accepted for being useless. All I have to do is just show up with a lot of booze and that's my part of this deal.
