Default New phone scam callers from Somalia

Has anyone else being receiving these last week. They all call for like 5 seconds or less and then hang up. I usually have my phone on silent so I miss all the calls anyway but I have received 4 in the last two days luckily during the day.

I did a bit of searching online and these callers from area code +252 are targetting alberta area codes lately and some people have been getting called 40 times a day!

I have tried to block all calls from that country by creating a contact with +252 and blocking that but im not sure it will work.

So aside from the annoyance, what's the scam?

Why would you call them back in the first place? Area code 252 is North Carolina

Either way...why would you call back in the first place if you dont recognize it. If it was important, they would leave a voicemail

Nzwasp was joking about calling the number.

Anyway, a US area code is spoofed in the most common computer scam that comes from India.

    Probably this:

As far as some people calling back, well, I guess it's just those type of people that they think they're missing out on something.

Just got a call from a 252. Phone recognized it as a scam/fraud and immediately blocked it.

Some people are lonely and just want some human contact.

Yea if someone calls and doesn’t leave a message it was apparently not important they get a hold of me so I’d never call back

Wife got this call the other day, so I told her not to bother with answering or calling back. Just trying to figure out though what exactly is the scam. I am sure they just can't charge you an amount based on your calling back. How would that work?

Same as calling a 900 number. They charge your phone carrier and they charge you

My wife often gets mystery numbers calling her cell. I tell her don't answer and don't call back. Heck even at work if there is no name displayed I don't pick up. I check the answer machine after and act accordingly.
