    Default Locating hidden WiFi router?

Is there a way to find the source of a wireless access point in / near a Walmart that is named ‘wmguest’ and being used to steal banking information from unsuspecting shoppers? It has been confirmed to not belong to Walmart itself. Not taking action myself, just curious on any recent technological advances not relying on specialized equipment.

you can download an app on your phone and locate the general area it's in by measuring the signal strength

If you’re on an iPhone download airport utility. Then go to settings -> airport utility and turn on WiFi scanner. Open it up, click scan, and walk around to find that ssid strength in the direction where it gets stronger.

Airport utility is the only app that can WiFi scan on iOS.

There are tons of apps that have WiFi signal strength meters.

Did you report this to WalMart? I'm sure they could pay someone to find it in very short order.

The store manager confirmed it is not one of the two wifi networks belonging to the store.

So the store manager knows about it? What has he done about it? And which Wal-Mart are we talking about?

Worst case scenario, connect to the device, find out the public IP, look up the provider and call to give details assuming it has its own sim and not using the existing wireless as a relay
Does Walmart have it owns wifi?

Yes, they have their own unsecured guest network and a vendor network.

he probably contacted Darell who i assume is either part of their security team or IT support, and hence why Darell is researching it.

I have no interest in this other than that a member of the neighbourhood watch I’m in, was robbed. Nothing more.

Wifi Analyzer on Android will give you strength of signal. Keep walking toward the direction where signal strength gains and you may be able to track it down.

It is Wal-mart, like they care, haha

Seriously, the last time I was in a Wal-mart we were getting a gift card for somebody we know who actually shops there (poor bastard). My wife was purchasing it, and they asked for her DL so they could copy down the address to register it. When she was telling me about it I immediately became suspicious and I went back in and demanded to know why the fuck they would ask for ID. So what they actually did was sign her up for a credit card without asking.... fucking thieves.

Wal-mart can go to fucking hell, I hope all the scammers go there together and it burns to the ground
Scotiabank did this to my wife. Told her she was entering a contest, signature to agree to terms of contest.

100 dollar per year card showed up in the mail 3 weeks later.
