Default Streaming internet or amazon prime on tv

How does everyone stream non conventional programs on their tv’s? With Netflix I can use channel 422 through Telus or use Netflix app/button on any of my Panasonic smart tv’s. This also goes for YouTube as I can use the apps on the smart tv.

With that being said Motor Trend on Demand is leaving YouTube and you’ll need to stream from their website. Additionally I haven’t subscribed to amazon prime to watch the grand tour because it’s a pain in the ass to plug my laptop into 1 of 3 tvs. I also own one AppleTV box rigged into a different tv but again it’s a pain in the ass to stream from my phone. In both cases, I can’t multi task and browse the internet at the same time since a device is being used to watch tv. The last tv in my house I don’t have an easy option for laptop or phone.

I’m curious what everyone else’s solution is for this as i find I stick to Netflix or YouTube simply because it’s way easier and convenient.
    I like neat cars.

I use chromecast on mine. I think its a similar setup to the Firestick as mentioned above, but it seems to work alright.

Nvidia shield, Xbox one downstairs. Most smart Tv's are ok at best. Invest in a decent android box at the very least if you don't want to splurge on one of the premium boxes.

I use HDMI and my laptop. Not ideal, but minimal effort for the quality I expect.

Ugh watching Netflix on the Telus box (channel 422) is a terrible experience.

Old PS3 or computer. Celeron N3050 laptop solely as a decoder (attached to external through HDMI) also works.

The price drop on PS4 to around $250 or so really nullified many decoders.

I have an Apple TV. It has Netflix, Amazon and Plex apps as well as a bunch of other ones like CBC, CTV etc. If I'm streaming anything else I can stream it on my iPad and re-broadcast it to the TV.

    This.

Motor Trend on Demand (what you're looking for) has an AppleTV app as well.

You need the apple tv 4 atleast if you are going to want to watch motor trend:

Motor Trend is available for the 4th Generation of Apple TV's

The 4 is great though lots of apps, even some games which are ok. I dont like the new remotes at all though.

If you have an android environment I would recommend the Mi Box 3. That and the Shield are the only boxes with the real Android TV OS. Get the North American version (Walmart) or the international version from one of those chinese sites. It'll be around $90 CAD but will do everything out of the box (Amazon, Kodi, Plex, youtube) and if you are on android you can cast to it too.

+1 for the fire stick if you're looking for a budget pick

Shield TV cover everything I need. Used to be my Xbox and/or PS4. Shield TV has better UI and remote.

Shield TV for me as well. Nothing comes close with regards to speed and flexibility.

And it has casting ability so anything you can't get can easily be cast from a mobile device, VLC, or any Chrome tab running on a PC/Laptop.

I gave up on my Samsung Smart TV... it was way too slow and the App support sucked.
Samsung phone with Samsung TV and linking is seamless. If you're on an iphone... good luck, always dropping issues, etc.

Yea I love the 4, and also agree the remote is terrible. I'm slowly forcing myself to get used to it, as you can use your iPhone as a remote as well with a similar interface.

The 4 is easy enough to use that my kids can figure it out. I do miss the 3 though, which standardized UI across all apps. The 4 kids have to learn different interfaces. Not a bad thing I guess, they seem to pick it up quickly.

If only they weren't so damn expensive.
