Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

I actually like it alot. I dislike thick soup base Ramen. Depends on which part of japan you go, it's quite different as well.

Was there on Thursday night and tried the char siu bun and the spicy and black garlic ramen. We both loved the ramen, but the app wasn't great. The bun was slimy and dense, instead of being fluffy and light. We'd definitely go back again, but I think Shiki Menya is still my favourite, but it's a lot closer than I thought.

Went there today and had the tonkotsu shio ramen. The broth is consistent with the feedback thus far: on the light side, verge on bland. However, you have it with the char siu and it balances out. I had extra and was totally worth it.

IMO, it's better than Menyatai if that holds merit to anyone.

IMO it's the closest thing to local Japanese ramen. Shiki Menya is still the best one for me but that's because I love chili goma haha.

I'll try other items at Wakado with spiciness to it.

Went there for lunch today. Outstanding. Best ramen noodles in Calgary by far. Nice and firm. Finally somebody here that understands this. Broth was amazing. The chasu was unfuckingbelievable. So soft.

    Will have to go back.

Been 3 times since I saw this thread months ago. So good! I love that broth isn't salty but still has a good amount of flavor.

I thought it was salty enough. Lots of people are salt-blind these days. John Gilchrist for instance was clearly totally salt-blind near the end of his tenure.

    Taste buds desensitized to salt.

Went to check this place out today after reading through all the comments here to see what the hype is all about. I ordered the Tonkotsu Black with Extra Pork and it was delicious! The broth is flavorful and not as salty as Shiki Menya or Jinya. IMO one of the best in Calgary. We had Ikemen last night and this one is SO much better.

My only complaint is the portion felt small. I was still hungry after my ramen + extra pork and that was $20 + tips... maybe next time I'll skip the extra meat and ask if they can do extra noodles.

I was also there for lunch today. Had the Spicy Miso with extra noodles, I am still full.

I went last night with a friend, and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Especially after being in SE Asia for two months.

The place has nice decor and layout is good.

The broth was tasty but would have liked it to be thicker. Too watery for my liking.
Portion sizes were good. Ratios were off in my opinion. If your waistline is not European then you might need to order starters (we did). I had the black ramen and I did not get as much as the photos show. Defo not as much greens, sweet corn and pork... Like one slice and a bit extra floating around somewhere in the bowl. That was the only negative or maybe I just got a odd bowl.
Noodles were excellent. The texture of the Pork was fantastic. The bowl felt empty but after eating we were quite full (which makes me think the ratios were off).

I was in Bangkok March/April and I ate at a Ramen place a lot. The food was amazing and the portion ratios were different too. So in comparison I would not say the food at Wakado is bad, but its not jumping out at you and slapping you in the face saying..'you maaah bitch' like Ken Jeong.
I would say its good. Decent by Calgary standards anyway and to be fair the dishes may be tailored to the market or a specifc audience.

    The service was excellent.
After the main course I got cramps. Earlier in the day I had a leftover chicken Vindaloo for lunch and I had to take a emergency dump. I went to the mens. I walked in to a Asian guy who was taking a piss. He did not lock the door so I backed out and waited outside. Toilets were really clean...impressive. After giving birth I limped back to my table walking like quasimodo. I could hardly sit properly as my arse was on fire. Dont eat Vindaloo for lunch.. it hurts..

Dessert was really good. Good size. Small and not heavy. Complimented the main course.

    Overal a positive experience.

Agreed. Quality of food is good but portions were smaller than everywhere else in town
