You can reset to factory but it will be flagged. In vw I think it’s td1 or something, not sure what it is for Audi.

If your out of warranty I say go for it. You’ll get a nice boost in power and won’t be to hard on the engine.

Yes, Audi will flag it TD1 and you can forget about warranty or resale. No, you probably can't sell the reflash back out, and it can be returned to stock - but why? The average buyer won't be able to tell the car is tuned unless you tell them.

FWIW, I did an APR reflash on a CCTA 2.0T and the DSG shit the bed shortly after. I wouldn't do it again.

This comes up everyone once and a while in the forums and the debate is hot. However, there is no definitive proof or software provider that will back it up with guarantee's nor a dealer willing to work with people to say yes or no. Is it possible? Maybe...Would i risk a warranty on it? hell no.

If you have any intention of selling the vehicle in the short term I wouldn’t bother.

I personally wouldn’t touch a chipped Audi on the used market.

    Just my $0.02

Remind me to avoid Riander’s marketplace links in the future with that attitude.

There are a number of zf8’s on the market with varying torque classes.

I doubt your Q5 has the same torque rating as the one in the F Type SVR for example.

More likely it has the lowest one for the mass of 2.0T cars out maxing out at 300lbft or something.

I would chip it if I were you, why not? For me I would buy a chipped 2.0t as easily as a stock 2.0t. Those engines are essentially bulletproof and run great with the tune. Not only is performance increased, but I have found I get better mileage on all the chipped 1.8t and 2.0t's I have owned.

For buying a used vehicle, the issue is never what has been done to it, but rather how well it's been maintained and looked after. But you even said yourself, you are likely going to keep it for a long time. So if the tune gives it better mileage, and makes it more fun to drive, then why not?

My Q5 has a version of the ZF-8HP transmission in it. It is found in vehicles with a lot higher power output, so I think it should be unaffected. I also don't really plan to by driving it too hard.
You basically wrote your future Kijiji ad. Change some words from present to past tense and good to go.

I'd chip it. APR is a great choice, I have done many VW's with APR and have never had an issue. This platform responds extremely well to even the Stage 1, actually ever platform I have had done was night and day different. I don't know if they still offer this, but APR used to have a tune selector that was integrated into the stalk called a flipswitch or something like that. I wouldn't worry about it if it is out of warranty who cares, may as well enjoy it You can also tune the DSG through APR

I think if it was something like an S3 or a WRX, the buyer would be thinking about if it was chipped or not... for an otherwise stock Q5, I doubt it would even be considered.

My view on this kind of thing is no harm, no foul... just like any other performance part, once it is removed and the is left vehicle in proper working order with no issues, I don't think there is any moral obligation to disclose it to a buyer. On the other hand if you left the tune in, or you've voided an active warranty, it should really be disclosed.

I can agree that a tune may reduce the engine or drive train life. However, an owner that bags the shit out of their car is usually a much bigger factor. If you are buying a used car, there will always be that risk that it has a reduced life due to past abuse.

This is all getting a bit off topic anyway. I have no plans to sell my vehicle, so this isn't an issue for me.

Ouch, did you drive it pretty hard or was it just a failure due to too much additional power? How many miles?

My Q5 has a version of the ZF-8HP transmission in it. It is found in vehicles with a lot higher power output, so I think it should be unaffected. I also don't really plan to by driving it too hard, well... most of the time, haha.
It was tuned right after warranty expired at 85k and within 3000km the DSG gave out. Researching forums it seemed to happen occasionally. Also, researching APR turns up a lot of shady shit about their business practices and product development, in particular their RSC catbacks. I would feel more comfortable with a slushbox for sure though, and I would probably find a different company.

But yeah, speaking of WRXs, aftermarket tunes actually improve reliability on just about all Subarus. Their OEM tunes run dangerously lean as that's how Subaru meets emissions targets rather than designing good engines.

I would say any company telling you things like flash counters can be reset or that tunes can be reversed without triggering a TD1 flag...well, go ahead and see if they're willing to give a written guarantee that your warranties would remain intact after their tune. My guess is they won't be willing to back up what they say.

Ouch that sucks that it went only 3000km's after it was put in. Thanks for letting me know the details!
DSG is the weak link when it comes to tuning.

I don't have much on 2.0T except my Sister and BIL got 2 of them. 1 turbo shit the bed at 120K on the A4. The 2013 Q5 seems to be going strong but it that thing barely broke 50k.
