Hey, wanted to get back to this conversation. Smaller AWD vehicle. As little tech as possible. Will probably never go outside the city limits and only on Deerfoot once in a while.
I'm sure you know this but AWD != 4x4

For something small I'd look at a CRV

Just to be clear, I know the difference and I would only be looking at AWD.
Also CRV is much too large.

Current front runner is base model Impreza.

If you go with Impreza go with a 2.5 RS as they are a good get around car.

New Prius to save on some gasoline, and it's a hatch type thing.

Anything and tell her it's awd or has magical traction control? No one should get stuck with anything with winters except after a blizzard and only if they park in a retarded spot like where someone shoveled all their snow.

    That or driving lessons?

Going from a 03 corolla to a new Impreza is like going from a 3 series to 7. Those things are massive, like all similar cars when compared to a 03 corolla. Great she has awd which helps on a few days but now she's driving a boat that makes driving suck 365 days a year. Doesn't seem logical to me
There is always one retard in every group. Way to go. You were helpful today. You get a gold star.

I still think the A3 is the best choice. I loved mine, and if my ex business partner hadn't stolen $12k+ from me, I'd still have mine.

Impreza can be hatch.... Depends on usage and trim, 30% fuel saving may not cover the cost difference.

    Impreza - $20-$31K
    Prius eAWD - $29-$34K.

If you are thinking new, the new Hyundai Kona is small (i think, never seen it in person) and has AWD. I like the styling and if I had to replace my wife's car right now, it would be the one.

    Loving mine. (2019 Ultimate)

The 2 base trims are FWD.
I would think an old lady is better off with the 2.0L (Essential/Preferred trims need to AWD option. Luxury trim is AWD standard) rather than the 1.6Turbo (Trend/Ultimate trim both AWD standard).
Preferred is a good bang for buck. Essential is way too basic IMHO.

Elements are obnoxiously huge inside. We looked at one before we got the CRV and it felt like you were in a giant box with horrible blind spots everywhere.

Hyundai Kona seems pretty nice. How much smaller is that than the Tuscon? I think my brother can get a good deal on a 1 year old Tuscon through his work.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Have you considered a Trackhawk? Best winter vehicle I’ve ever driven. I may average 24L/100km but it sure is fun. Attachment 89012
