    Here are the proposed maps

My favorite so far is mountain view road to the city limit, 40 km/h.

The fuck? 60 along that stretch already feels way too slow up until you hit the acreages.

Also the gravel road that goes under Stoney Trail north of Top Gear is included in the 40 zone too.

Well one time I did see someone in the ditch off the embankment there going southbound . Wasn't winter or anything if I recall either.

Imagine how easy it'll be to text and drive? It'll be basically the same as sitting on your couch texting.

Seriously, they need to reduce bike and escooter limits to 10km/h.

Also do we get a reduction in insurance? I mean a 30km/h accident, barely any damage.

No, because there will be an increase in the amount of accidents.

I like getting passed by everybody on 12ave in the new 30 zone between 8 and 9st. They are fine at the playground zone the block prior, then they say fuck it. Those little signs sure are effective.

No because we are going to be hitting a lot more pedestrians now since their chances of survival are so high at 30.

Distracted driving tickets will probably go through the roof too with long stretches of 40km/h. Not hard to see why the city wanted this so badly.

Just emailed Druh. Probably wasted my time.

    Edit:
    Message from another Councillor.

It is important to note that there has been some confusion because of reports that this matter has been discussed and voted on leaving people believe that a decision has been made on changing the speed limit to 40 km/hr on residential streets in Calgary. These reports are referring to a vote at the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation and Transit held Wednesday, September 30th. All this vote achieved was to have the matter move forward to City Council. The vote in City Council will be the deciding factor – so there is still time for your input.

Cllr. Demong is not in favor of changing the speed limit in residential zones and feels there will be little benefit to such an action at this time. He says Calgarians have so many other things on their minds right now it is not necessary to add this.

If the committee votes heavily in favour, there's really no chance that Council will turn down the motion.

Just looking at the maps for each wards, other than a few one-off roads that shouldnt be slowed down, I would say its actually all pretty reasonable. Theres no way most of those residential roads should be more than 40.

My neighbors seem to be happy about our specific road. Nothing really changed other than the narrow residential streets

It's not going to change anything though. 90% of the people who speed through these areas, are going to keep speeding. Cops barely ever speed trap those roads as well.

Only it's going to cost a bunch of money to put up appropriate signs everywhere.

I don't disagree about the costs. They would have to up the enforcement as well, which will cost more. I'm just saying that, if they were to do it, it seems like they did it reasonably.

I'd be happy if people at least tapped the brakes at the stop sign in front of my house.

can we have the speed they take off the side streets added to the main roads?

take 10km/h off any road that's 50km/h or slower today
add 10km/h to any road that's 60km/h or faster today

thus restoring balance to the universe.
