I ALMOST like this car. I really want to want another BMW.
But after the salesman at the auto show smirked at me while he locked me out of it when I reached for the handle after someone else got out...
Fuck it. More ehemgeez
Besides. They are all hideously underrated, probably all defeat devices for emissions lol.

It's basically standard procedure nowadays. The ZR1 just dyno'd at 50hp over its clamed number.
My GTS is almost certainly 50hp over its stock 505 number.
Prepare ship for ludicrous speed.
That’s one thing, but I just read an article with Porsche’s GT department head. He said (not some third party dyno that can be calibrated any which way) that the new NA 4.0 in the GT3 RS will make full power in the summer, in Death Valley.
It’ll make even more in moderate climates he said. So some manufacturers aren’t even trying to hide it.

I estimate the GT3 RS will make 550-560bhp at speed in cooler condition. Factory Ram air too.
It should be higher than the 4.5L in the speciale for most NA power/L. Just not officially rated as such.
Back on topic the new M5 is wicked fast.

Isn't this very normal? Virtually every forced induction car these days puts down way more power than advertised, especially the big German TT V8 sedans. At a minimum, most FI cars are putting down close to their advertised crank HP numbers to the wheels. The higher HP cars almost always well surpass that.
Ya it’s normal. It’s just new for BMW.

Maybe a decade ago, pretty much all of the powerful BMW's in recent memory have been underrated...

Yeah, but then it backed off with the N55. The N55 was much closer to what they were quoting. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The M5 was also over rated, just not as much as the E63 with the 5.5TT
Start around 3 minutes 45 seconds for the relevant dyno part.

Definitely the KING of the sedans.
Interesting to hear this response because I thought the overwhelming consensus when it came out is “I’d rather have the E63”
The thing I like about this is it seems a little more youthful and sporty in its nature than the AMG.
I want to see what a competition pack does to this car.

The hate for the BMW and the fanboy following of Merc/AMG is so obvious in this forum lately.
Everyone is a Wannabe lol
That was the assumption when the M5 was announced, mostly because BMW lost its way last generation. It's going to be back and forth between the M5 and E63 again as the 2 cars are staggered in release cycles. Next up for the E63 would be the E73 with 48V hybrid added on the 4L V8 TT, probably around next year's refresh, with BMW doing the same afterwards. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Not just here, it's everywhere. BMW lost it's sales crown to Mercedes for a reason. At least they're trying to step up again. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

They lost the crown very recently. Prior to that there were number of years they were the undisputed kings. No one talked about themThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
What I don't get it that give credit where it deserves. BMW makes a great cars. I am sure Merc makes great cars too. Simply because it is not your cup of tea there is no point is mocking them.
Define recently haha. BMW lost the M3/4 C63 battle as far back as E92 (arguably). No debate with current generation comparison that C63 is tops but the gap has closed with the competition package this year. The F10 M5 completely lost its way and got owned for an entire generation. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Gotta stop taking the internet so seriously. On the bright side, at least you're not an Audi fan haha.

I don’t think anything in this thread could classify as hate for BMW as a make.
I just don’t think BMW has really even tried to compete against AMG in a lot of ways for a while.
Their cars just haven’t been as compelling as a general statement, and that is for a whole number of reasons.
I think this thread is a great example of how many people on this forum WANT to like BMW again.
