It all about demand on the niche cars as you know. But when the fanboys and the enthusiasts all have their cars, reality sets in for some dealers. Some don't get it.

Ford Raptors are finally going for MSRP and they actually have unsold models in showrooms. I think the GT350R still has dealer markup. They can't give away the regular GT350.

The fanboyism was real on the M2 in this case.

They just laughed saying they can’t keep them on the shelves.

Win win for everyone I guess.

Oddly I see the same models getting stale on the showroom floor every time
    I pop in.

It's so strange because in large industry everyone has moved to Kanban and Kaizen principles of reducing overhead and moving inventory in and out as fast as possible. Car dealers will just sit on inventory months for the sake of not caving in $1000 when in the long run they end up paying more in interest payments to keep the car on their lot.

But they get to claim “exclusivity”

I always love trolling people who take themselves too seriously

    “I drive a BMW ok!”

“Wow, you know I hear they won’t sell those to just anybody”

Dealers typically have 90 days before their inventory starts incurring interest from the manufacturer.

I wasn't aware that manufacturers were the ones handing out the loans to dealers to acquire the inventory. Seems like an unusual risk for a manufacturer.

Yah I was going to say this doesn't seem to be how Calgary BMW operates from my personal experience. And I agree it has been hilarious in the past trying to deal with them on some cars at their lot. They held onto that '11 grey 335iS for a longggggg time. Best quote to date was "we aren't in a rush to sell because the car doesn't experience depreciation as we own it" I almost had no words for that

And iirc they had a Red X5M that sat in that yard next to Burnco for a very very long time as well

I think the industry practice is that the terms on the car are 90 days. Basically dealer has 90 days to turn the car over before they have to pay for it. It is why you sometimes get a better deal for something on the lot and why factory orders have less incentive.

Yes .. the "90 day' is the normal rule dealers are more willing to discount, then "180 day", and 1 year...

Exclude .. sports cars being sat for 90 day from winter till spring ..

Man, wouldn't it be cool if there was a third party site somewhere that kept track of the inventory at dealers based on time sitting? Then we get alerts on how long they sat on the lot so we get an idea on how to approach haggling.

Just ask, most dealerships love to sell you old stock, if you are willing to .. but usually in Brown/dark green/Burgundy/solid black, with beige or tan interior ... hardly see White/Pearl white/Grey/Gun metal/Black metallic those popular colour sit long ...

The price difference is also so small, may just $1,000 or just few hundred buck, ($20-30 a month on payment) may well pay slightly more for factory order or fresh stock in colour and options you want. ^_^

Looks like BMW is ready to make an announcement on the M5 Competition. Yesterday by accidentally the images were loaded to BMW Australia website.

Historically competition packs have been all under the skin changes. Not surprised it looks the same.

I do not like BMW tossing competition under the nameplate though, was one thing for the M2 considering it was essentially a new car with a new engine. It’s just following in the steps of AMG and Audi with the s’s and the +’s. M5 was fine, let people guess about what options it has.

But this is a tune and some suspension adjustments...

Is the M2 really a new car? It's really just an LCI with the S55 engine, new seats, and a few cosmetic changes and an optional brake package. Rest of the car is basically the same.

The car is about as different from the original M2 as the M2 was from the M235i.

M2 Comp is almost a new car. Because of EU regulations BMW has stopped production on the M2.

It looks phenomenal. I don’t need this kind of temptation in my life. I would have bought this if it was out a year ago.
