Default Audi "Lights on" error - Plz help

    Hey guys,

so I have a 2011 Audi A4. Today while driving, all of a sudden i got a message on my dashboard "Lights on" and the buzzing sound. This usually only happens if the car is on and the door is opened.

I pulled over and closed all my doors, but the message kept coming on. When I parked my car, I couldn't even lock it. The lock button on the fob didn't do anything, and nor did the lock button on the door. The dashboard shows as if the driver's side door is open, even though it's not.

I was able to finally lock the door using the key in the door, but this is a very troublesome situation.

Plz help! I'm not sure what to do.

This was the first thing that came to my mind as well.

Stop the car, turn it off. Activate the switch and see if the dome light at least flickers. If it doesn't, the switch either needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Yeah actually there's probably no switch in the jamb. That's the smart way to detect if the door is closed, not the VW/audi way. My old Jetta had this same problem. Tape the window to the door frame, remove the door panel, remove the mechanism that holds the window up, then remove the module that holds the latch and lock mechanism. Take it to the dealer and get a replacement keyed ($450+) and reinstall. Alternatively, you can drill out the plastic rivets on the module and remove the switch. Jump the wires together and it'll think the door is always closed.

Go check this guy out on youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/ExoVCDS/featured

He is a VW/Audi guy who posts awesome videos. You might not find something specific to your car but you will find something related, search "door switch" to find your issue.

on my car, the drivers door harness had some broken wires from fatigue. a VCDS scan will tell you exactly whats wrong without taking it apart. not worth the hassle and guesswork to take it apart without scanning
