Default Insurance Hit and Run Question

Had a co-worker get into a messed up situation involving a hit and run - this guy lacks a bit in the life skills department so I figured I would ask to experts to make sure he isnt getting boned from the insurance company.

    Situation -
Driving down Macleod Trail, he was clipped by another vehicle who spun out - which pushed him across 3 lanes of traffic and over the median into oncoming traffic, he was then hit by a car in the oncoming lane.

Police have deemed him not at fault, have dash cam footage of the incident - how ever, the car that hit him took off and didnt stick around - police cant make out a plate via dash cam footage - so it is now deemed a hit and run.

Insurance company has written off his car ( He has full coverage ) but they are telling him he has to pay his deductible AND the person who hit him in the oncoming lanes deductible - does this make sense? dont you pay for insurance for situations like this? they should be covering the other persons deductible you would think?

Unfortunately to me that sounds correct. The collision between your friend and the oncoming car would be treated as a separate collision from the initial collision. In that situation your friend was traveling the wrong way on a road, regardless how he got there in that collision he is 100% at fault from an insurance perspective no question. That is how I see it, sucks but deductibles are small and good luck fighting the insurance company for it.

Wait for Masked Bandit to chime it but why would he need to pay the other guy's deductible? That's what PLPD is for.

Paying his own deductible make sense if it was deemed hit and run.

Pays his own deductible, yep. Paying the deductible of the other people involved (oncoming lanes) doesn't make any sense, I've never heard of that. Something doesn't smell right.

Yeah i dont see how the other person's insurance would even come in to play, unfortunately being a hit a run, the fault (maybe not fault, but responsibility) does fall on your friend and i would think his insurance would cover the whole thing, which means 1 deductible.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.
