update, rear wheel arches now rusting. Frown, but not surprise.
If you’re seeing it outside, the inside has been going for a while. Ran me $1400 to have it all cut out and fixed with new flares and a bunch of bedlining work.

Bottom of my tailgate is going, will need to keep an eye out for one in the next year-ish I think

Suspect you are right about the fix. However also suspect I shall not be undertaking that repair. Spending ~$1400 will not increase the sale value by $1400.

Throw the cheapest flares you can find on it for sale and call it done.

Question for the people on this thread:

How does this suv GLE 350 4MATIC SUV with a 2.0L inline-4 turbo tow 3500 KG?

Being at home with the whole COVID thing I have saved 30K and got me thinking perhaps I want a bigger suv for my camping.

I'm guessing it'll be mediocre. I would get one with warranty; I'd be concerned about the transmission on an off warranty/higher mileage one. It's a vehicle primarily designed to get groceries and take kids to sports and school, not tow holiday trailers.

I wouldn’t tow past 2500kg or so with one of those, the closer you get to “max” the harder it is to control the trailer and harder on the tow vehicle.

Ask @rage2 about tow packages for Mercedes

Seriously. You want to tow a serious trailer but a serious tow vehicle.

Unsure I considered my trailer a serious trailer at 2700lbs.

Even an explorer would be a huge step up in stability and ability, even if the rating isn't much higher.

    It’s for bikes.

Smoking deal at $5k for that OEM setup lol. Did my calculations and can only really tow 2000lb empty trailer braked.

Anyways Mercedes SUV’s can tow pretty well. The ESP system has trailer stability assist when the electrical is connected.

The 9-speed is rated to handle up to 738 ft/lbs. The ZF 8-speed in my Dodge truck is rated at 770, so I wouldn’t worry at all about the transmission towing performance in this Mercedes.

Yeah I wasn’t necessarily saying it’s going to shred itself, but probably run hotter due to having no cooler and stuff? Idk, I’m spitballin here.

Bottom line is it’s not gonna be as good as like 100 other vehicles, and towing is hard on vehicles so I wouldn’t be choosing an off warranty Benz to do it with.

Its 2700 lbs, but once you factor in the wind resistance of the front end/crosswinds to the sides, it FEELS heavier. I towed my friends 4200 lb trailer home for him when his truck died. It was the heaviest 4200 lbs i've ever towed.

Pretty sure I'm selling this thing in 2 weeks. Have heard some wacky values for used trucks. Had one guy tell me I'd get $22k for it. That seems like madness, for a truck that's 10 years old, over 200,000 kms and not at all pristine. I mean, it runs great, but nah brah. Anyone who wants specs, look on the first page of this thread.

Am hopeful that I'll get what I paid for it. That would tickle me greatly. Aside from a $400 set of used tires, and new transmission cooler lines, and a lot of fuel, it's been very cheap to run for the three towing seasons I've owned it.

You’ll probably do ok, the market is hot. I ended up flipping the diesel I just bought and decided to keep my 06 yet again.

A guy i was camping with is looking to sell his 2013 Duramax. Unlike my truck, that thing is in pristine condition. something like 60,000 kms, he's owned since new, and he only uses it one month a year for a big family camping trip. That baby is perfect for export, worth 3x what mine is due to engine and condition.

And it’s even got the right number of cyclinders.

Too bad you had to trade down.

Well six cylinders plus two turbos has to equal eight cylinders, I mean, I can ask my kids math teacher, or a CPA maybe. Sure wouldn't trust a P. ENG.

Depends. What is the displacement of the turbos?
