    Default Rachel's Child Care Reduction

She is killing it! Ok, not really... but still nice to stop getting kicked in the balls being excluded from all the "tax breaks"

Reduction for me is from $1,300 month to ~$565.

The federal government committed $136 million over three years to expand the child care program. The province is spending an additional $4.5 million, on top of the $10 million announced last year.

Is your kid already at one of those daycares? I imagine the wait list just got exponentially longer.

I wish it was just a grant to all parents with kids in care, even if this rolled out to all childcare centers I still wouldnt benefit because I have a nanny. Due to school and child age it doesnt make sense for us to put the kids in two different care places and be able to pick up in time before they close. Well that and they dont have enough places here anyway.

If didn't pay into equalization we could afford $3-7/day like Quebec.

More affordable childcare is something that I think is important for our economy.

Not sure that choosing a select few locations to provide this huge subsidy is actually the best way to do it. Glad my kids are all in school these days.

Agreed. However, for all the cheap shots I've taken on tax - I'm not going to complain when they put $735 month back in my pocket.

By the time our daycare gets the new price, my kids will be all out of daycare. This is like getting caught on the wrong timing of grid insurance all over again.

Same! i’d be laughing if i only had to pay $25 per day, chances are, my daycare centre will be last in the list since they have such a long wait list to begin with.

Did you guys get confirmation that your particular locations are getting this funding? It's not everywhere, and in fact, it's a small fraction.

Car is an appreciating asset (in this case anyways). Kids have potential to be depreciating or appreciating. I’ll get back to you in 30 years if you’re still alive haha.

This is the list https://www.alberta.ca/early-learnin...locations.aspx. The wife says we are already on a wait list for one of the YMCA, but I can imagine the waiting list just got exponentially longer.

Although I am a big big fan of affordable child care, I think the roll out of this was done piss poor. Select locations so its basically a lottery whether or not you get to take advantage of it. This, however, will be a hot button for the election because there is no way any party could shit on affordable child care and expect that to be a selling feature. I just cant see this model being sustainable. Like nzwasp said, I wish it was a grant with rules set in place so facilities didn't jack up their prices to double dip.
