Absolutely. My dad told me to not let him drive once it isn't safe (he's nowhere near there yet, but will be at some point just like the rest of us). He also called and had his grandpas license revoked once it became unsafe. I'd rather do that than lose him because he got in an accident. Or have to deal with the fallout of him causing someone else harm.

No one benefits from having unsafe drivers on the road.

If it was him who got the ticket he would speak English and know what he did wrong when the cop pulled him over.

I'm not a careless driver, so it's a moot point. If for some reason I did get that ticket, it'll likely be cause I did something to deserve it. I'm no expert, but I don't think Police hand out 6 demerit tickets with no basis. As I said before, anyone that drives poorly enough to warrant someone calling them in is definitely doing something wrong; I don't feel like I or anyone should be exempt from that. If the ticket isn't well deserved, it should be very easy to fight and get reduced to something else that's less detrimental.

Should be noted, I'm not trying to downplay the fact that it sucks for old people to lose their ability (and license) to drive... that situation sucks for everyone involved. Doesn't mean it's not necessary though.

10 yrs driving in edmonton and she doesn't know any English? Your mom should be deported. Our roads would be safer with this.

she told us she wasnt doing anything. And she doesnt know what the police was telling her because she doesnt understand english. Other than he told her she didnt pull over fast enough and that she must of been driving drunk.
am I the only one laughing at the mental image of the cop trying to pantomime that "he told her she didn't pull over fast enough and that she must of been driving drunk" to a old asian lady that supposedly doesn't speak english?

Dude, there's no way his mom is older than Speedog, and he's still sexy as hell.

She’s 65. You don’t want pics srsly. Anyway we are pretty sure she’s fucked because she called us while we were having dinner and told us that she crashed her car today and so now we are contemplating getting her head checked out. My wife, brother in law and me have all decided she can’t drive until she’s passed some sort of fit to drive test. Anyway I don’t see her getting a lesser charge of six demerits so her insurance card cost alone prob would be cheaper for her just to take transit to work. Or better yet buy her condo near her work.

I don’t know what happened but other than this in the last ten years she’s had no issues and drives from home to work and back nearly every day. I don’t think that warrants her never needing to drive again because of one supposed issue where she may of swerved in or out of her lane.

Would your opinion apply to your own parents if you were in our situation
Sounds exactly like my step mom. Absolutely terrible driver with multiple at fault accidents but she didn't think she did anything wrong in any of them. For the last 7-8 years she's been fine and drives daily with no problems but she's still a bad driver. One time I was taking the bus and the bus slams on the brakes and I look to see what happened and it was my step mom that cut the bus off!! I have been telling her for years to stop driving but she's stubborn and think she's a great driver when she's the exact opposite. I was driving downtown the other day and this old Chinese lady was in the inside on a dual turn and turned wide right into my lane and I laid on the horn and she immediately turned the other way almost hitting another car.

Just because she hasn't been in an accident for a while doesn't mean she's not a danger to others or herself. Family or not, you should get her off the road before she kills someone or herself.

How the hell does someone drive in a country for 10 years and still not understand English.
That’s actually amazing to me, and to be honest, a big problem.

In Vancouver area you can get by in Cantonese pretty well - esp in Richmond. No one follows traffic signs anyway and Mainlander rules are the norm.

Careless driving ticket and doesn't even know what she could have remotely done

    Sounds about right!

Almost as good as "I didn't roll through the stop sign" thread.

Jokes aside, fight it and report back. $543 is alot of money haha.

should be a law that foreigners learn English within so many years once moving here... How lazy or stupid must someone be to avoid learning the language to the country they live in.

So if they had learned French, would have that made the situation easier in this case?
    Will fuck off, again.

Just cause she has no business behind the wheel doesn't necessarily mean she needs her head checked. There's plenty of people out there that are just plain ol' shit drivers. Hopefully you find this is the case, and nothing more to worry about once she's off the road.
