Cocoa $12,000 per ton.
Interesting but because as usual you didn’t read the article I’ll correct your thread title:
California energy commission to vote next week on whether all new builds over 3 stories tall will require solar installations
Joe Rogan has mentioned on his podcast that currently the state requires a portion of the roofs of all new builds to be “solar ready” the number I found was 15% of the roofs surface area right now has to be solar ready. I wonder if they’d stick to 15% and have all new builds actually install the solar at the time of the build or if they’ll change that number.
That being said again they haven’t even voted on it yet
Edit:
Hmm, so independent says “homes over 3 stories” Fox News says “up to 3 stories”

The main takeaway is that they will be pushing hard, but not to the point of net-zero (because there are plenty of places where there simply is not enough sunlit roof area)
Even if its a token couple panels, it is still going to add significant cost.

That would be awesome.
Really a no brainer, new construction is the perfect time because it gets baked into the mortgage, it will be normal, like AC. I would do it to all rooftops though.
I wondered why every municiplaity hasn't already done this already.
Cost is substantial, they estimate roughly $30,000 USD/household on average. ~5-10% on top of the standard purchase price is not something people would take lightly. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Of course they would. the extra bit on your mortgage paymnet would be offset by your power bill being way less. It would be damn near a wash. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Its California, average home price is $440k. $30k is peanuts for net zero.

The amazing thing about the Bay Area, is all the normal working people there HATE Apple, Google, Tesla, Facebook, All of the Silicon Valley giants, for coming in and making living completely unaffordable. People forced out of their neighbourhoods they have lived in for generations to make room for Stanford engineering grads who work for the tech giants gestalt idolizes. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Normal everyday folks like Gestalt getting priced out of their lives. Very ironic.

Glad I invested in solar.

Solar is the real reason I buy Tesla monthly. Love the cars, but recognize Musk was juat trying to prove a point and embarass gas guzzlers performance wise. He's compleyely decimated the golf cart image of EVs and drove the major manufacturers to pursue ev. Not sure he's to interested in going further. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
As a side when i was researching our solar system, found books with pictures roof top solar water heaters from the 1800s. during ww2, there were African countries with solar electric generation. Reflected sun at tubes carying water steam turbines made the power.
The evil oil industry hijacked our future through war and buying politicians.
