Voted other. I have a purse-carrying wife that serves this purpose.

When we're on vacay and out and about, she just takes a bigger purse that can fit a few extra items in it.
QFT. This is actually the reason I stopped carrying a purse of any sort years ago. S.O kept treating me like a damn pack-mule

I'll be carrying a backpack around Japan though. Or maybe I'll make him do it...

osprey daylite pack. 20 or 30L I think. More than enough room for camera, water, light jacket, and/or misc. stuff

    My travel carry-on are
-Eastpak Tranverz S Ocean Blue luggage (42L)

    -Jansport Agave Backpack (32L)

The Agave becomes my daily bag where I can safely carry my camera gear, bottle of water and other miscellaneous stuff.
Having a chest and belt strap also helps for even weight distribution.

Sometimes I also use a Domke F2 instead of the Jansport for shorter trips

If I'm going to be out all day and doing a lot of sight seeing and possibly some shopping, I bring my Crumpler Keystone. It started off as a camera backpack, but it's far too cramped to pack a lot of gear so I just took all the camera/lens compartments out and use it as a regular backpack.

If I'm going back and forth between destinations and where I'm staying and just need to bring some cash/passport and my camera and maybe a bottle of water, I bring my Crumpler 4 Million Dollar Home.

I got a very old Jansport backpack/rucksack that I usually take with me.

This time, I used a small manbag that Ive had for years. Its more of a mini travel bag as its got a shit ton of mini pockets, hidden pocket, a loop so it can sit on your belt etc.
I was able to put in my Go Pro with chest strap, Anker battery charger and charger cables, cell phone, ipod, pens, a small bottle of water and mini wallet. Hell I even connected my reusable water bottle to the straps.
It was pretty good going around Angor Wat and going around the citys. Not too big like a backpack.

I'm a fan of Clive bags from early 2000s. Here are 2 day-packs that I alternate between.
