Assistant goes a step further for some partner restaurants, like Starbucks and Panera; the software sidekick will work with third-party apps to streamline the food-procurement process. "Hey Google, order my usual from Starbucks." Google is also working with Dunkin Donuts, Door Dash and more.

It's not like it's hard to order my usual from Starbucks app but this is whole different layer of lazy if it works in Canada.

Pretty awesome that Google is building it the other way around. We've built human interacting bots here that work with natural English language, and it does the same thing but other way around, interacting with our users for our services. This bridges the gap for businesses that doesn't have any resources to do what we're doing.

What will be interesting (and hilarious) is when this google bot makes a call and ends up at an offshore call center. Even Pizza 73 has offshored it all, and when I can't use the app and calling them to make an order while driving home, it's a fucking struggle to get my order right haha. These systems just can't deal with any sort of accents. I always show off the newest voice recognition and facial recognition stuff when I travel to India, and it hilariously never works for them.

This will pretty much put an end to even needing offshore call centers in the future, that AI could probably do a better job than most of the overseas people can. Countries like India have been milking this to death... in just a few years it will kill all of those jobs.

I wonder if in the future it will just be a bunch of bots calling each other... your personal assistant bot calls the hair appointment bot, and they have a totally AI conversation to setup a time

Because today's social norms still require that you have a phone number. You need a number for almost everything still.
