Any updates on this project now that you are a few months in? Been worth the time/money?

Going great and yea absolutley worth the time and money.

I actually asked the wife a couple days ago if she was still on board with the initial lump sum vs what we've been getting and yep, now that she can see what come out of it she totally on board.

As for the tent, bought a fancy ph digital meter since my $20 amazon meter was completely whacked from actual readings. Finally know when to plant seedlings so no tub is ever empty for more then a few days.

Not much else, been busy so haven't been experimenting as much as I'd like, but with minimal time you can see the thing just pumps out greens.

    A couple shots,

Thanks for the update! Anything that you would have done different from the start like the lighting or any other pieces that you have upgraded along the way and would recommend?

Hmmmm not really. Dont cheap out on a PH meter, all the lights are doing great, everything else is running smooth.

I'll be throwing in some new air stones, I have small ones right now and I'll be picking up some 8" long ones. Not sure if this will make a differnece in growth, time will tell.

What did you do as far as ventilation for the tent? Did you run a vent outdoors or do anything to continuously draw fresh air inside the tent?

Small update, trying out strawberries and now the 5g pail is a tomato plant.

Small tip for anyone that's planning on running a setup like this, check PH at least twice a week. Letting it go above 7ph even for a few days can really stunt the plant pr cause burn. Once I figure this out my plants have zero issues.

Tent is in the basement, that's about it. I'm sure that's enough air for a setup of this size.

I dont think the lighting is sufficient for those plants. Other then that change my nutrients and I'd be able to start right up.

Isn't that what Sugarbud is planning to do?
Seems like lots of people in the US already are doing it, particularly in Cali.

I've personally seen a couple soil setups since it's become legal, but still havent seen anyone doing it with hydroponics.

The Mars Hydro style of LED light really sucks compared to newer tech. One huge advantage of LED is the ability to spread the light sources out which the Mars Hydro style fails to do. It's also using a very old LED style. You can get super geeky and build your own light for a little more then the Mars hydro lights and get both a better light spectrum as well as a high light output. There are a couple of ways to go .you can use LED COBs which lets you spread the light better then the single style or you can go to LED strips which allows you to spread the light even more. Also as a note the Mars Hydro style lights try and do an equivalent to HPS lights so it's trying to say it's 300 watts when it only draws 130 ish watts from the wall. If you want to do some DIY there are a couple of good youtube channels to check out.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC65..._YyOOxg4PC-uhA Everest Fernandez, He does a bunch of different hydro styles and uses different types of lights. All non devils lettuce
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPS...LXObtBJmz-76rw Growmau5 good for DIY LED setups he has a good series which if you follow will allow you to build your own light.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSZ...H1yklVFxS54qdA MIGRO UK Youtuber who does test on lights
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH6...9FestxzUMnPA3g Greengenes garden Devils lettuce grower who also manufactures LED grow lights. Good for both LED grow lights and hydro setup information.

Hydro is so simple & easy, and I'm coming from old school when 1kW metal halide lights were about $1,000... If LED can pump out suitable wavelengths, people should be growing pounds of weed.
This thread rules for a closet veggie/herb fun project! OP should experiment more with varying fertilizers from grow phase to bloom phase. General Hydroponics used to make excellent fert and systems that'd work great for this.

Why the crazy setup? Ours is rather simple:

And no checking of ph. All grown from seed--just water and "worm tea" once or twice for a few things. We've been eating lettuce for a few weeks.

if anyone is interested in trying this stuff out, I have lost a lot of my interest in doing this. I just don't have the time as well. Willing to sell my 2 hydroponics setups and all the supplies with it.

Hydroponics too tough in this climate, a month of cold weather and you will get sheets of ice on the windows if you forget to keep it enclosed.

Good old fashioned soil sounds like a plan, it won't grow as fast or as perfect - but mother nature gets its done.
