Anyone climb Mount Fuji?
We had planned to but as it was before the "official" climb season the bus schedules were very inconvenient so we would have had to take some very expensive taxis. That in itself did not deter us but then we met several people who had tried going only to be turned away due to high winds. We've also hiked a lot of volcanos and always find it less enjoyable than expected - dirty, dusty, and steep with disappointing views.

In the end, we hiked up to Komitake Shrine and then continued on a trail for many kms past there (can't recall the trail name but it basically just goes to some radio towers). The benefit of that hike is we got many nice views of Fuji itself, there were very few people, and we saw a bit of wildlife. I'd highly recommend it.

Alternatively, if you can get up to Hokkaido to climb Rishiri-to I think that would be far more unique and interesting (we also hoped to climb it but also faced weather issues given we were there in June).
