Default Higher end art buyers/brokers/etc in Calgary?

Trying to help someone sell a few higher end pieces ($10-20k a piece sort of thing)... what’s the best approach? First call was to the store they came from in Edmonton, they were excited for a chance to buy them back, but haven’t responded since. Is there a good place to advertise locally? Anyone that would be a “go to” in town? Maybe connections to a more international market that would still get the seller a good price?

The only Canadian art division they have is in Toronto

Everything I am finding that’s local seems pretty Mickey Mouse... they also all seem to specialize in certain artists

    Pieces in question:
    Bill Mack relief sculptures:
-encircled enigma in bronze ($50k USD retail)
-glamour in mixed metals ($50k USD retail)
-radiant II in stainless ($3900 USD retail)

Also a Chris DeRubeis “shockwave” ($7k USD retail)

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

i feel, as resellers of art... we wouldnt get the most honest price going that route... plus its also a crap shoot without knowing which galleries are actually the good ones... and which ones are not

Call has been placed to Heffel though... might not fit their market, but hopefully they can at least point us in the right direction. Value has to be at least $20k for them to entertain setting up a private sale... no idea what true value is for any of it though. hard to find that info.

Everything is listed up there ^^^

Enigma is a freestanding sculpture, the rest are wall hanging... “shockwave” is metal I believe?

Fuck I glossed over that, sorry.

Consignment gallery is going to be your best bet I would think.

Do you know what a fair commission is for that sort of thing?

This is my friend here in Saskatoon if shipping is an option:

    http://www.darrellbellgallery.com/

He's dealt with the some pretty high priced showings in the past, did an Eli Bornstein installation back in the fall - some of those pieces are into 6 figures. He's dealt with Joe Fafard I believe, again high dollar value items.

    That's all I've got.

Locally, I know some people that trade pieces through Masters Gallery on 4th street. It could be worth a visit or a phone call to discuss the pieces, commission arrangements, etc. I would expect the commission rate to be similar to an auction, which would be in the 10-12% range. The hardest part is determining whether you're getting a fair sale price, or if the piece is being sold cheaply to move it along.

Another option that I'd probably at least look at is Artsy. They have a program where you submit the works and they'll get consignment offers from several of their dealers / auction houses. https://www.artsy.net/consign?m-id=c...BoC83IQAvD_BwE
