    Default Tiny Houses in Calgary

Are any beyonders planning or currently building a tiny house in their backyard

    http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Pages/H...ary-Suite.aspx

We would like to in our neighborhood but since we are on an R1 we cannot because R1's are not approved until the end of the year.

Our neighbourhood is next to aspen and we are lucky to have a bigger yard but I wouldn’t think a backyard dwelling would be suitable in most backyards out here

Thought tiny houses are usually built on wheels so they can skirt any sort of permit process

Tiny homes on wheels, also known by most people as impractical RV trailers.

This is a crazy small house on am awesome lot backing onto Confederation Park:

This one is also tiny a few blocks away:

According to the city bylaws you cant legally live in one thats on wheels but it seems all the tiny house building companies build them on wheels

Also according to the bylaw if you are building one it has to be 3m away from the nearest building facade and I dont know if that includes the deck because if it did I wouldnt be able to build it in my backyard.

Are these homes truly frugal living? I am looking at some on Facebook. Looks like something interesting for retirement. I don't know if it makes more sense to own the land the tiny home is on or rent. Obviously, I need to learn more about frugal living and would like to learn more on this thread

Before hipsters took over, it's called trailer park.

Nothing more frugal and sustainable than a 600sqft apartment in a 30+ stories building. This is just good for MIL suite and hipsters trying to be different.

Very good for MIL suites. Laneway homes could be a real benefit to neighborhoods and offer slightly more independence than basement suites.

OP, this doesn't sound like something that can help you with your MIL because of zoning. As people mentioned in previous thread, moving to new house may be best option.
