It's nothing more than caloric restriction dressed up in a feel good package.
Isn't the whole point of intermittent fasting to fast for more than 12 hours so that your body burns fat after it runs out of glycogen stores, although the same process occurs after exercising for more than 60 mins. I think its the fat burning as well as the calorie restrictions I dont think people are shedding tonnes of weight based on the calorie restriction alone.

There's more than one theory about that concept. It's not a consensus.

Takes alot longer than 12 hours to go into ketosis.

Calorie restriction is the single biggest factor in losing weight.. I don't know how you could ever think otherwise

This has been my opinion and the main attraction for me doing IF. Although I have heard people who sound like they've done more research than me suggest other benefits.

Main thing is, there doesn't seem to be much in terms of drawbacks.

People are much more likely to accept fitness as some kind of complex witches brew than admit to themselves that they are lazy and eat too much.

    Anybody else eat brisling (sardines).

Love em. Some pepper flakes and some Nando's Piri Piri, and you've got a pretty healthy evening snack.

Yeah, I eat way more of them now than I used to. Started actually liking them haha

Great sauce idea, I use some kind of hot sauce on them every time.

Like EXTRA said, there's many theories about benefit/detriment. I don't personally feel the benefits are only due to caloric restriction because when I am on a 16/8 cycle, I don't think I consume any less calories I just consume them in less time!

True, although a bit oversimplified, all the personal trainers love reposting this one and it's pretty much bang on -

When your dog needs to lose weight, do you put it on intermittent fasting and ketosis? Or stop feeding it so much and take it for more walks?

I think intermittent fasting is the simplest way to restrict calories. Or it is for me anyway.

This is the key theory behind IF and it leads to 2 consequences in terms of calories:

    - You have shorter window of eating so you naturally eat less (less snacking/drinking during evening hours). This is especially true if you're on a shorter eating window like 20/4 or OMAD
    - Experiments show even on cheat days when you eat more on average its not enough to offset the deficit from the fasting days

I love 'em too. Wife thinks I'm crazy. I keep a can in my desk at work in case I need some food.

I made the mistake of telling my wife I was trying intermittent fasting about a month ago and she went straight off the deep end saying it was up there with anorexia and that all IF people have deep mental issues. I keep it on the DL now. CICO is ok - IF bad (in her mind)
