Coles notes, unless you are a beginner (muscle groups are untrained) and very obese (lots of excess energy) it's unlikely you will build much or any muscle in a caloric deficit, but it possible in theory with high protein and smart lifting.

I just think it's not really worth focusing on since the muscle gained would be pretty inconsequential. Lose the fat you want, then focus on building muscle after.
I think we're largely saying the same thing actually.

The main point seems to be that losing fat through a caloric deficit and gaining muscle is a two-step process, rather than something easily done in tandem.

I remember when I first started working out as a teenager, someone told me that you need to think of your body like a sculpture - if you want the finished product to be big and hard (that's what she said), you need to start with an even bigger block of granite (or something like that)... Even if that's not the goal here / now, I think the point stands.

We might be.. just based on some in this thread not knowing a ton about nutrition and fitness, I didn't want people thinking they could start cutting cals and putting mass on (maybe that wasn't exactly what you were saying)

You're quite right to point out what you did, my comment was just not clear. I should have been more clear that building muscle in a caloric deficit is only possible in specific circumstances, but it shouldn't be part of your plan or an expectation.

It is easy. It's just the execution that's difficult for many.

It's hard not to be fat.

The biggest hack I have when im trying to lose weight is to have nothing tasty in my house at all.

As Tanner Shuck a guy I follow on insta put it - if you aren't hungry enough to eat a plain chicken breast, you aren't really that hungry

I've gained 10lbs since moving into the new house because my gym is now farther away and I don't go on weekends.

It is fucking hard work to not be fat. I am really good at being fat. I wish I could make money being fat to not be poor.

I’m curious what you guys eat on a daily basis that allows you to be over weight.

    I’m almost 50, 6’ tall and 195lbs on a full belly.

    I usually have 4-5 meals a day.

Eggs and oats in the morning, usually around 8am
Protein shake after workout, around 10:30am
Yogurt, fruit and vegetables for lunch, will include protein and a beer if I’m eating out.
Some sort of meat for dinner, fish, chicken, pork or beef, a starch and a veg.
For late night snacks I will have nuts or popcorn and water.

Weekends I like to drink but always consume diet colas or mixes and hard alcohol.

    I don’t drink a lot of beer.

No sugar is so important I feel. Natural sugars in fruits is fine, but refined sugars are pure evil for the body.

Your rum of choice is not a spirit and is full of additional sugar

It’s 35% with 40g/L of additives… also the cocktails you often post are for sure containing simple syrup

You can eat all that as long as it’s around your maintenance
