Default Pay as you throw black bins

I'm sure you're all aware of my black bin rants: https://forums.beyond.ca/threads/343...ve-(was-trial)

City is looking at pay as you throw scheme.

    http://www.660news.com/2018/06/13/ca...ack-city-hall/

Genius tax/fee increase by the city. First step was to reduce our collection by 1/2 without reducing our fees, so basically doubling our garbage fees costs. Now asking for more money to get 50% more garbage picked up (which still wasn't at old levels).

I don't care, doesn't affect me in any meaningful way, prob save me some money based on how many trips I've made to the dump at $20 a pop. I'd like to have this now, but you know, the City, can't roll it out till fucking 2020 if they decide to do it.

Common give me a smaller green bin. Garage is only so big. I have been filling my garbage been pretty frequently now with random garbage and styrofoam. Blue bin of course full every week.

Simple solution for now. Just put whatever you want in whatever bin you want. Sure, they'll start monitoring it eventually... but until then, screw em.

Exactly this. Alleys and other people's bins will be full of trash. Mine will have to get moved inside the yard at a minimum. Or, I'll just start using construction bins all the time and tell them to fuck their collection.

I see this already in the City. people do midnight runs into new communities to dump their couches and other large items in construction bins to avoid paying the higher dump fees, or find back roads and fill the ditch.

“I would love to pay less, of course, who wouldn’t?” laughed Cindy.

“It makes sense because not a lot of people make a lot of garbage,” said Tamara.
Cindy and Tamara approved! Must be good for everyone hahaha.

I'm with Rage, the whole fucking process of garbage, recycling and organic collection in this city is infuriating. Cut pickup in half, keep prices the same, then double charge to go back to old quantities of pickup.

Just last week the city didn't pick my green bin up leaving my organics to rot in the sun all day, great. Now I'm left dealing with rotting shit for another week. I dumped it into a garbage bag and its going out with our garbage this week. Thanks Nenshi.

Oh yeah, I have my bins laying on the ground a few times. I watched the video footage recorded by my camera and you can tell some drivers are better than others for sure. The bad ones would drop and tip over all the bins in the block when they release them lol.

Unfortunately, they already check. At least our driver does.

They already monitor. One of our friends who lives in Evanston mentioned that City people were out checking the bins last winter.

The city needs to be careful with some of these overly complicated ideas.
There is only so much people will do when it coms to their garbage, yes they will separate for recycling. But how much more..?

In the UK I witnessed residents getting fed up and just started dumping their garbage in public waste-bins at the bus-top or dumping in alleyways.

    Interesting. Still simple IMO...

CoC: "You heathen, you put garbage in your green bin"
Me: "No I didn't, must have been a neighbour."
CoC: "You can't put the items in the wrong bin, it messes with our system."
Me: "Well, you better find out who's messing with my bins and go talk with them."

    Am I missing something?

Edit: Just read your other thread. Didn't realize they won't pick it up if it has the wrong stuff in it. What a buncha dicks.

one of the only advantages to living in a townhouse is that we all have shared garbage/recycling bins. we've been doing some house renovations and de cluttering and we would be totally screwed if it weren't for the bins.

I had an idiot garbage guy refuse to pickup for a month because I didn’t space my bins properly.

Alley is a disaster since every infill on he block now has 3 bins out all the time. 0 enforcement for putting them away.

Portland residents used to pay 22 cents a month for green bin pickup. Now they pay around $2.50/month.

Is there a bylaw saying you have to put them away if you have an alley? I honestly have no place to put them on a 25' infill lot.

The rule is you can't put them out before 7pm the night before. I laughed.
