Nanaimo is an NDP strong hold. Older people there are super union/entitled and younger folks have no clue where the socialist money comes from and what drives the economy (businesses).

Thats probably the last place an NDP byelection would lose. There have been 2, non NDP MLAs from that riding since 1963.

Are we allowed to donate to the liberal candidate?

I'm sure the by-election would be heavily funded by all the parties and other interested groups.

*Krog also happens to be a current sitting MLA for the NDP,
(Oddly, instead of resigning to run, he is running and only resigning if he wins, not a common practice),
Knowing a BC politicians logic, he'll win as mayor, and then refuse to step down and sue the government for trying to force him out of one position.

    This kind of bothers me:

I mean this is blatant discrimination... they are literally banning a group of people based on their gender and colour of skin
If it makes you feel any better they already had to try and justify ignoring this in the last election when they only had white men to choose from to run in place of some outgoing MLAs.

Without looking up some of the articles, I think it boiled down to: 'just because we made it a policy that we have to pick an equity-seeking candidate, doesn't mean we have to pick one.'

Maybe, but if you go by statistics in BC for by-elections, the government in power loses 92% of the time
Nanaimo, and the island, will be the 8%. Its Union all the way.

Its not about diversity. Its about power, by dividing people due to characteristics outside ones control, you gain a lot of power.

Notice how the left leaning governments keep putting in laws that are difficult to overturn? The reason is that it gives them more control and a higher likelihood of getting back into power.

Talking to family in Nainamo and area.. I would be shocked if they don't go NDP again.

Yea I just left Nanaimo here - its obvious that Harris has spent a lot more on promo than the NDP or others and also, a lot more private homes have the Harris sign than the NDP.

I would have not believed it possible - but the NDP really fucked up a lot with the speculation tax debacle and the 'negative billing' that seemed to focus on Nanaimo.

    BUMP!!

So this is finally happening, the fate of the BC government is riding on this

Voting day is Jan 30th, so by tomorrow evening we will know

While the NDP have dominated the Naniamo riding for decades, there is a strong appetite for change for those who are not happy about the NDP-Green alliance from hell.

Polls currently have the Liberals out ahead:

    Fingers crossed.
That loser sack of shit Horgan has been their most disruptive Premier since Clark and Horgan wasn't even elected Premier! That plus those idiot Green members who handed him the keys without getting ANYTHING in return but found themselves getting screwed by him when he still pushed Site C through.
It's too bad it has to be in Nanaimo where their Council and Mayor is such a sham. I don't have as much faith in Nanaimo voters.

^ most of the council was voted out, or chose not to run in the recent Civic elections - pretty much all new cast as compared to the previous debacle
