Wow I don’t like this trade at all

I like this trade for CGY
Ferland being included kinda surprise.
"Can't remember who, but they mention that D.Hamilton didn't fit in locker room, and may have some attitude problems"
Was that the reason we give up Dougie? (was expecting Brodie to gone!)
I think this trade could work out to be pretty even or better for us in the long run.
Hamilton was by far the better defenceman, but some are speculating Hanifan isn't that far behind. This also allows us to reunite Brodano.
Ferland is great when he's on his game, but can be pretty streaky. Plus he's UFA after this season and would want more money.
Fox wasn't gonna sign with us so he was a throw in.
Carolina Hurricanes 2.0 in Calgary.
Wtf not Dougie!!!!
I don't mind this trade. Dougie registers a -1 out of 10 on the 'give-a-crap' meter and you never know what you are going to get with Ferland. I don't like giving up on Fox, but i get the feeling he wasn't going to sign with the Flames in the end anyways.
We will now have the #5 and #6 picks from the 2013 draft playing on the top line together, and the #5 pick from the 2015 draft playing with Hammer on the 2nd D pairing.
The more I think about it, the more I like the trade

Didn't like it at first but now am more positive about it. Must be some issue with Dougie plus for a guy his size to play soft fan often would pick on him. Hanifin and Lindholm are high draft picks that are improving. Hope they can continue to grow, mature and be part of the core for this team. Let see what it will cost to resign them.
Ferland can be a beast but with concussion issue he seemed to have toned it down a bit. Calgary is soft though even with him.
Normally I'd dismiss the things said about Dougie as fans and the media making a player sound bad to make themselves happier about losing him. But considering we were hearing the same things out of Boston the first time he got traded I think there's something too it.
Ferland I really love but it was pretty obvious he would get moved. UFA next year and going to get paid based on inflated point totals from playing top line minutes, that's how you get contracts like Brouwers. Still sad to see him go though, streaky as hell but when he was on he was a treat to watch.
We added two good players as well. No reason not the think Hanifin can be as good as Hamilton offensively while being a bit better in his own end. Lindholm should put up better numbers on that top line while being a good 2 way player.

Don’t mind Douggie hitting the road, but Ferkland I would have like to see here for a few more seasons. Albeit expensive ones if CGY wanted to keep him.
Just my opinion. He was fun to watch when he was on his game.

Soooooooo... does this mean we are staying the course with Bennett?
I do think Bennett will improve greatly under a new coach and right linemates. Building confidence early this year will be important.
Have to think it's a make or break year for him. Peters said he's going to give him more opportunity so if he can't run with it in a contract year you have to think they'll be moving onThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Bennett looks like he was hindered by Gulutzan's system and just didn't have the hockey IQ to excel at being a center. Hopefully Peters can fine tune his game and let him play the way he wants to play... as a winger. Just give up any hope of him being a good center in the NHL.
I was upset at the trade when it was first announced, but have cooled off a bit. Hanifin will probably never replace Dougie's offense, but his defensive game, give-a-crap meter and taking boneheaded penalties will be an upgrade. Didn't really understand why we picked up two RFAs when we had Dougie under contract for a good cap hit for a few more years. Hopefully the two new guys don't cost too much. The fear I have is giving them long term contracts without even seeing them play a game for the Flames yet.
I really like this trade.
Not to mention I can see Ferly wanting to come back and sign with the Flames in free agency at the end of this year.
On the way home, listening to fan960, they were talking about if Ferland is on your top 6, then you don't have a very strong top 6, not sure I agree or even disagree

Ferland to me is basically a smaller but slightly faster Oilers era Lucic. Plays well with top line, invisible anywhere else, but on a nice value contract. We’re still remembering Ferland as he was in the Vancouver playoff series, but that ship has sailed imo and he’s topped out where he is. Regardless, he’s UFA next year, and I feel like he’s going to have a big ask thanks to his numbers this year, and become an anchor contract like Lucic’s contract today.
It’s funny, before he spent a lot of time on the top line, I felt like he would be the magic sauce for Mony and Johnny and be epic, but he proved me wrong with just average play. Not sad to see him go. Maybe oilers will give him a $6x7 next year.
